MUFFY is BACK!

After the deluge of posts the last few weeks, been
rather quiet the last few days. As usual it is not because I am away, busy or
have nothing interesting to blog about. Just that my heart was not into it ...

Found Muffy lying on his side on friday. he was badly ill to say the
least. I rushed to the vets at Sembawang but they were closed. same thing at the
vet at Jalan Kayu. So I had little choice but to go to Mt. pleasant animal
hospital. It got more frustrating there when i had to wait so long to be
attended to, when other people were there for seemingly trivial matters. I saw a
perfectly fine looking dog entering the examination room when I was there before
them. Good thing the receptionist saw my distress and personally brought Muffy
into the room to be treated. That may have very well saved his life.
The
diagnosis for Muffy was he had a weak intestine or that there was some blockage
which made it difficult to excrete. There was also a prognosis of some back
problem. Seems like the back 'problem' went away somewhat mysteriously. As for
the 'sluggish motility of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT)', after some feed and
glucose, it somehow went away as well. A remarkable recovery. He looked a goner
on Friday, but by sunday he was the same old Muffy we have all come to know and
love.
Scruffy on the other hand has a problem with his left ear. It is
always flopped down. No idea why that is. Was that way ever since Muffy went to
hospital. but now that Muffins is back it is still down.
Needless to say,
Agnes and myself are so relieved that Muff is back. We missed him so much (even
though I saw him each and everyday!). Cannot imagine our emotions if we had lost
him that day.

We went River Hong Bao yesterday. I must say it was rather
lacking in the CNY spirit. it may have had something to do with it being a
sunday and that many of the stalls had closed. We also enjoyed the fireworks
display. Got many pics which I will post up in time. had dinner at Thai Express
at the esplanade. Agnes just loves the crayfish there.

On saturday, we
spent much time at the animal hospital attending to muffy. we got there around 5
and were even able to stay until pass 7.30 pm (even though visiting hours end at
7).Before that we were at SMU for the SMU Animal Day. saw many nice dogs and
bunnies.

Was at IPAM for my 3 day Basic Investigation Course from
Wednesday. Also took the opportunity to fetch Agnes from home to school on those
days. NUS and IPAM are rather near. But was rather taxing for me on the first 2
days especially with all the rain and jams. In fact I do not think I was ever on
time on the 3 days for class. The course itself was not what I expected. it was
more theoretical than practical. More words and talk than anything else. I
woulda prefered more real life experiences, picture, case files and practical
usage of the skills we learnt.

We need more hay!!!

and...

a proper drinking bottle for Muffy!!

Borrowed 4 books from the
library about bunny rabbits.

This week gonna be at HQ alot. Doing UAT
for iFAST. Worse part is that it seems like I am gonna have to be doing most of
the dirty work alone. Ai Khim is out of the country on some workshop again. Dr
Ali is supposed to be covering duties, but seems like I am the fella at the end
of the food chain once more. So I do not expect to be at Sembawang much this
week.

Feeding Muffy his critical care herbivore 50% diet is tedious. The
syringe is so small and the food so much. takes about 2 hrs to complete it all.

Got a call from Jewel Box today by the duty manager that day. he
apologised and explained what had happened that day and the circumstances that
led to my terrible valentines's day dinner. seems like he will be sending me an
email and there may even be a silver lining to our ordeal....

toys for
rabbits, in fact anything for rabbits is bigger than anything for hamsters!! and
so much easier to source for...

some other stuff I also wanna write
about, but will save it for another day...

In case no one noticed, the blog has a new look and
layout. it is still a work in progress. I am not quite satisfied with the way it
looks. it still seems rather generic to me. the main difference is that the
links and all are on the left now instead of on the right. but i am not quite
comfortable with how there is little differentiation between the main body and
the links bar.also the colour scheme is still rather bland. kinda looks like my
christmas themed blog layout from a while back.

Been on course the last couple of days at IPAM. Being that NUS and IPAM are in close proximity,I have been able to pick Agnes from home and send her to school. Too bad it rained and drizzled almost all day. That resulted in traffic jams from home to Bedok on Wednesday. Then today almost every expressway was jammed. It took me 2 and a half hrs to get from home to IPAM. Was late by nearly an hour. Thankfully I was not the only one. There were a couple of others who arrived shortly before me.

The course itself is rather uninspiring. It was not at all what I was expecting. I was hoping to see more real life scenarios and pictures. But what has been on so far, has been mostly regarding regulations, laws and Acts. Almost like a lawyers convention. It does not help any that the lecturer is an a former policeman. He really acts and talks like one! He fits the stereotypical image of a parade commander with his booming voice and poor english. hahaaa.. one more day to go.

Next week:I may be away all week at HQ doing UAT. Sianz...

Agnes been unwell. Not well almost everyday. That coupled with her tiredness makes Agnes an unhappy camper. Brought her to a clinic near her house to get some medication and cream for the red blotches and itchiness she had. Poor baby.

saturday looks to be a packed day if Agnes is up for it. Tomorrow we may go watch a long overdue movie (once again if Agnes is up for it).

movie reviews

Dreamgirls
Quite liked this one. Great performances by Beyonce Knowles, Jennifer Hudson,Eddie Murphy and Jamie Foxx. This is Jennifer Hudson's break-out role and shows her vocal and acting chops in this one. Not so sure if she deserves all the awards she is getting, but no doubt a great all round performance by her.
With all the hype surrounding Jennifer, people often overlook Beyonce's best performance yet. She starts off as a typical girl next door with big dreams in the beginning of the piece, and evolves by the end to a cross between Diana Ross and herself in Destiny's Child.

Letters from Iwo Jima
The companion film to Clint Eastwood's The Flag of our Father's.It tells the story from the side of the Japanese in what is probably the greatest victory of world war 2 in the american psyche. This film tries to show the heroic defence of the jap troops on Iwo Jima as they defend it from the americans who outnumber them. Despite the inferiority in numbers, equipment and support they fight valiantly against the superior americans.
In all fairness, Eastwood gives a fair account of what happened during this fabled battle. The Japanese are portrayed as more than just stereotypes and all the main protagonists are fully fleshed out by the time the finale comes around.
