Singapore Boleh!

There will be no revealing costumes at U.S. singer Gwen Stefani`s concert in Malaysia this month, a newspaper said on Saturday, after a Muslim student group demanded that the event be cancelled as being too obscene.

Jumping, shouting and the throwing of objects are barred, while performers may not hug, kiss or wear clothes with obscene or drug-related pictures or slogans, it added.

On Tuesday, an official of the 10,000-strong National Union of Malaysian Muslim Students said Stefani`s video promotion clips were obscene and the event would clash with local Asian and Islamic values
.

I do not know what kind of concert it will be with no revealing clothes,jumping...or shouting. All I can think of about this matter, SINGAPORE BOLEH, for a change...

WWE Diva Victoria posted the following on her MySpace blog :

"So I was on the WWE Asia/Australia Tour. We fly from California to Bangkok, perform in Bangkok, then fly to Singapore. As I'm going through customs to get into Singapore, my purse goes through the x-ray machine. The security guy tells me they have to look through my bag. I didn't see anyone else get stopped, so I figured nothing good was coming out of this. A couple other security people come over.

They pull a bullet shell casing out of my purse. Let me explain that. I think I mentioned a few months back that my uncle passed away when I was in Europe. I didn't get to go to the funeral, and because he had a lengthy career in the U.S. Air Force, they gave him a 21 gun salute at his funeral. My brother collected the spent shell casings from the salute and had them engraved with his name and the date he passed. I appreciated that, and I keep it with me.

Well Singapore Airport security wants to know why I have a spent bullet in my purse. They pull me aside, and pretty soon, police officers come up with some kind of investigator. Meanwhile WWE office folk realize that something fishy is going on, so they step aside with me. The investigator questioned me for a while. They really asked me the same questions over and over. The whole deal took about 30 minutes.

Everyone was very polite, and I absolutely understand they have a reason to be cautious, but the whole thing was quite surreal. They ended up confiscating the shell casing, which I hope WWE can get back from the Singapore government, and sending me on my way."

I changed my mind now about Singapore Boleh. I do hope Victoria gets her bullet case back. Be a pity to lose something of sentimental value due to bureaucratic inflexibility. Reminds me of that time I went to KL by plane and had my teeny-tiny swiss army knife confiscated by airport personnel. When i got there I did not get it back. Go figure. That sucked as that knife was with me for a few years and was something of a gift from the zoo.

The EPL has been abuzz all summer long as everyone and anyone has been looking to beef up their squads for the new season. Ironically the big spenders of the previous seasons,Chelsea, has been rather quiet. Manchester United and Liverpool have strengthened their squads with players like Fernando Torres (Atletico Madrid, £20m); Andriy Voronin (Bayer Leverkusen, free); Ryan Babel (Ajax, £11.5m); Yossi Benayoun (West Ham, £5m); Owen Hargreaves (Bayern Munich, undisclosed); Nani (Sporting Lisbon, undisclosed); Anderson (Porto, £18m); Tomasz Kuszczak (West Brom, undisclosed). Spurs have beefed up their squad with Darren Bent (Charlton, 16.5m). Also in the market for players are West Ham (Scott Parker (Newcastle United, £7m); Julien Faubert (Bordeaux, £6.1m); Craig Bellamy (Liverpool, £7.5m); Richard Wright (Everton, free); Freddie Ljungberg (Arsenal, £3m) ) and Manchester City (Rolando Bianchi (Reggina, £8.8m); Martin Petrov (Atletico Madrid, £4.7m).
Newcastle have also been wheeling and dealing with Mark Viduka (Middlesbrough, free); Joey Barton (Manchester City, £5.8m); David Rozenhal (Paris St Germain, £2.9m); Geremi (Chelsea, free); Claudio Cacapa (Lyon, free); Alan Smith (Manchester United, undisclosed) .
Looking forward to see Roy Keane's Sunderland fare in the EPL.
There is also the Carlos Tevez case (West Ham to Man U), the exit of Thierry Henry to Barcelona and the controversial Gabriel Heinze transfer between arch-rivals Liverpool and Manchester United. A hot summer by any standards, and it is not over yet...

Sent Muffy to the vet for neutering on Saturday. As I was told to be there between 12 pm to 2, I brought Muffy (cage and all) to the office. So Muffy had a jolly old time romping around the office.
After work I sped off to send Muffy to the vet at Sunshine Plaza, The Joyous Vet. I must say I was rather impressed by how professional and genuine the staff there are. In stark contrast to how you get treated at some of the other vets I been to.
I left Muffy there and came back later to collect him in the evening.

After dropping Muffy off, I drove over to Orchard. I had wanted to check out the House Rabbit Society of Singapore's Yours For Life 2007:

Was lots to see there despite it only featuring HRSS (unlike other such fairs where other organisations are involved too). There were many adoptee rabbits there. As well as a children's art competition. I just love children's art works, so bright and cheery. Full of optimism and joy. Wait till they get older. There was also a showcase on rabbit abuse cases. Then there was the usual HRSS merchandise booth and a stall selling rabbit accessories. As par for the course, many HRSS brought along their beloved pets for a day out. So all in all not a bad function.

After walking around Orchard for a bit I headed home as I found it rather pointless to wander around town by myself.
Then after a bit of resting and chatting at home, I headed off to CCK again to collect Muffy. The vet brought Muffy out and gave instructions on how to care for Muffy post-surgery. Best of all have a dossier and ID card for Muffy! coolness

ID Card:

Dossier File:

And even a Certificate of Neutering:

Muffy himself was fine. Found traces of dry blood on the papers, but otherwise Muffy is fine. He ate alot after I brought him home as he last ate in the morning!
I housed Muffy in my room for the night as his cage was still dirty and was worried about the potential of infections. Needless to say Muffy made a ruckus last night so I had to remove his water bottle as he kept pushing and banging the bottle.

This morning I awoke bright and early to wash out Muffy's cage. Then place him inside after he had had his morning exercise. Placed newspapers on the cage bottom and places the wooden grate over it. Will probably have to change the papers and clean the cage everyday or at least on alternate days for the time being. Until the wounds have closed completely.

GET WELL SOON MUFFY!!

The Battle of Kruger

A battle royale between a herd of buffalo, 2 crocs and a pride of lions.
The lions seize a buffalo calf in the water(watch to understand!), then a couple of crocs make a cameo as they attempt to take the calf as their own. The entire herd of buffalo return and the lions get OWNED!
Buffalos rock...eventually.

And..oh..the little guy makes it!! Who woulda thunk?

Here another buffalo calf overcomes the odds and goes back to his mummy despite sustaining serious looking injuries.

The 3 ginger kitties were sent to SPCA today. It was never an easy choice to make. But recent events made it almost inevitable. Like they say,'Never bite the hand that feeds you'. How to tame the untameable? We did try for sure but 2 out of 3 of the kittens chose to be like their parents. In short, mean pussies. The injuries my dad especially has sustained in the last few months are crazy. The most recent cat attack was the worst I seen. My dad had cuts and bites on his arm and legs. Crazy stuff. Hard to believe that a small kitten did those. Now that they are gone, that leaves more affection and food for Nico, UJ and Monk...

Seems like the 3 of us,Noel, Ant and me been able to spend time over the last few days. In the past Noel and myself had conflicting schedules, so it ended up that we hardly ever met let alone spoke for weeks on end. But now that he and Ant are around the house I have been privileged to dine with all the good stuff Noel and Ant can come up with. Noel should not let his cooking onus go to waste. But his heart is in the entertainment side of things. How ideal if he could do one of those cooking shows where he travels around, cooks and drinks. Or had that show already been done?

Agnes and myself got around to opening our joint accounts. Due to Agnes being held up in school, the OCBC at AMK Hub was the bank of choice by default. Not that I could have chosen a better bank. As was vividly illustrated today, OCBC provides quality service. From beginning to end we were treated promptly and with a smile. In stark contrast to how you feel when you step into a DBS Bank branch. Had several bad experiences with them over the years. They act like you owe them money or something. I guess they have let all their success go to their heads, that they forgot how they got to where they are now in the first place. DBS place more emphasis on corporate customers than personal banking for sure. Agnes was leaning towards DBS for some reason. But I am glad better sense prevailed in the end as the stars aligned for us to do our business with OCBC.
Maybe someday we can do an 'upgrade' and get a current account, but meanwhile a joint savings account will do us just fine.

Muffy will be going on Saturday to get himself fixed. I will be sending him after work to The Joyous Vet (don't you just love the name?) at Choa Chu Kang. Dr Grace comes highly recommended by HRSS and all the other rabbit owners I have asked. I hope he will be fine. Gonna ask the vet about Muffy's curious testicles. They look strange. Not that I am an authority on mammalian genitalia.
Maybe we can follow up with getting Scruffy down to the vet next week or soon. There is no real impetus to do so, but we might as well just go ahead and do it sooner rather than later.

HDB sent us a letter that our application for an additional housing grant had been...denied. I am not sure where that leaves us now. But at least things are clearer now then they were. Hopefully the key to the flat and everything that that entails will follow in due course. So looking forward to our new home together.

Meanwhile I have been tasked to go do some research on ideas for our new home at Bedok. Will probably head down to a friendly neighbourhood library when I am free to look at some home decor magazines.

Really miss Agnes. Seems like ever since we got married we have even less time for each other. The main thing keeping us apart has been her school work. She has experiments to run and a thesis to write amongst other things. So we have had to settle for meeting up for lunch and dinner. But this time apart has made the time that we do have together more treasured. Hopefully when we get the keys to the flat, we will be able to spend more time together....

movie review: Knocked Up

Starring: Seth Rogen as Ben Stone and Katherine Heigl as Allison Scott.

A slacker and an ambitious career woman somehow hook up at a bar. The usual opposites attract scenario that every romantic-comedy has. As it turns out, the one night stand leads to something more. Allison displays all the symptoms of pregnancy. Her worsts fears are confirmed after several positive off-the-shelf kits and a visit to her gynaecologist.

Hilarity predictably ensues as Allison and Ben try to get to know one another for the baby's sake. As their world's collide and all seems in vain, Ben and Allison learn to truly love one another for who they are. Sort of.

The movie starts off kinda odd, as you dun really feel anything for both of the protagonists. Ben came across as good-for-nothing loser. He drinks, watches porn, smokes pot and has not had a job in years. Allison on the other hand is the stereotypical all-American girl. Blessed with good looks, ambitious and wholesome. Not very sympathetic to be honest. But as the movie progresses, you begin to delve beneath the surface of the characters as Ben and Allison come to grips with having a baby together.

What I liked: Knocked Up boasts a cast of fascinating supporting characters. Allison and Ben have a good chemistry despite their coming from different sides of the track. In a way their relationship seems plausible despite appearances. Knocked Up also boasts cameos from Hollywood stars such as James Franco(Spiderman movies),Steve Carrell, Jessica Alba, Eva Mendez and Ryan Seacrest. How much of the dialogue and situations the characters find themselves in, in terms of married life and raising kids, are something just about any married couple can relate to. I guess in some ways this film reminds me of The Break-Up (starring Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn) in that it really examines the male and female psyche in an somewhat objective manner. Gives deeper insight into how in a marriage how a husband and a wife can grow apart without realising it. And how men and women differ in their perspective of how things can and should be done.

What I did not like: the sophomoric antics of Ben and his friends get old fast. By the end of the flick you are glad Ben got rid of them. Another glitch I felt was how all the loose ends were conveniently tied up by shows end. I hate movies that go for the 'Happy-Ever-After Ending'. As it turns out Allison's pregnancy was a non-issue at her job, as instead of being a liability she ends up getting PROMOTED to an even better job interviewing pregnant stars for the rest of her term. Ben on the other hand thankfully discards his loser friends, gets a well paying job, buys his own house and finally reads all the baby books that Allison has been nagging him to read. All a tad too convenient for my liking. So Ben becomes the opposite of what he was for most of the film. The entire premise of the film in my mind was that Ben was a loser, and that Allison's career was in jeopardy because of the baby. But as it turns out in the end, much to my dismay, Ben does well to provide a home for Allison and child, whereas Allison has the full support of family, friends and her bosses. Yawn. Ohh...and there is a really explicit 'crowning' scene. Not for the faint hearted...

Rating: 3 and a half unused condoms out of 5.
