The Wedding Banquet
Today Joyce and I attended a friends wedding dinner. It was very much like every other wedding dinner I have attended. As usual it started late (invitation card stated '7.30 sharp' but the do started at about 9.15) and everyone was late. I would place myself in the 'moderately late' category as I reached there after the time (7.45) indicated on the invitation but before 70% of the other guest. As a result of my 'tardiness', I resolve to arrive at least one hour after the stated time as doing otherwise would be tantamount to telling the world that I had nothing better to do all day and could therefore make my way to the wedding dinner venue at a leisurely pace in good time. Being on time would be an obvious sign that my boss does not give me enough overtime and work to do at home which means that I am not an important member of staff in my company. Being on time may also be misinterpreted that I do not actively participate in household chores or have any important appointments on weekends. So as to avoid any further misunderstandings we solemnly vow that we shall only enter the hall or room after the bride and groom have made their march down the aisle and are seated, and the first course had been served....
The food was alright ...not great or good....but alright. The wait between serving of the courses could be likened to making love to a drunken man (not that I have ever made love to one). At first you have to wait like 10 -15 minutes before anything happens. But towards the end it all comes almost simultaneously. Must be that they had another wedding coming up and so had to rush out all the dishes to the tables. But by then it was about 10:30 pm already. Another theory could be that the waiters and waitresses are paid by the hour and are entitled to claim taxi fare if the dinner finishes after 12.This fact was probably realised by the floor manager ....
The chocolates that were given as farewell mementoes were good. Joyce ate the pink hearts and I ate the white ones. Those poor hearts did not even manage to get off the table!
I have invited my momma and papa to church tomorrow.Noel too. Hope they go. That was my birthday wish.......would like nothing better than to see my entire family gloriously saved....
