Drivers Woes
as a driver here are some of the stuff I hate:
-cameras at red lights.
I appreciate trying to penalise people who endanger the lives of others by beating a red light. But in my humble opinion these cameras endanger more than save lives. On numerous occasions I have seen vehicles make sudden stops at such junctions just to avoid getting caught. If that is the motive for having such cameras then. I myself sometimes find myself in a dilemma when approaching such junctions not knowing when and if the light are gonna change. Sadist these government officials...
- also speed cameras along highways.
Very much the same problem. An expressway is for people to move 'expressedly' but it is kinda slows down to a crawl near these cameras. I do not for the life of me see how this improves the safety aspect of drivers. They also have such cameras along roads with pedestrian traffic, such as one near my office. Along this particular road the limit is 60 kmh! Good grief.. that is almost a snails pace considering the road is about a kilometer long and straigth. If you are so worried about pedestrians getting run over, CLOSE OFF THE ROAD AND PUT UP BARRIERS. There are 2 overhead bridges along this stretch,USE THEM. NO point penalising drivers for the silly nincompoops who use a major road as their personal playground. Or even set up a traffic light there. Anything is better than a speed camera and a 60 kmh speed limit!
- People who hog the right most lane.
It is supposed to be an overtaking lane. But it seems like drivers cruise along at a leisurely pace in the lane for the duration of their entire journey. It is a pain in the ass when you have someplace to be fast, and you get stuck behind this guy who seems to be out for a joyride. Grrr...
-motorcyclist who straddle lanes.
It would not be so bad if they were moving at a moderate speed. But these morons make 2 lanes impassable by just riding at snails pace between the lanes. You cannot overtake them on either side for risk of hitting these 'poor, vulnerable motorist'. Grrr...
- silly pedestrians and cyclist. This problem is more apparent at Geylang and Little India. You have people waking across the streets and wankers cycling oblivious to vehicles around them. It is almost like they own the bloody roads. It is a road for goodness sakes. A road for motor vehicles. you are only endangering your own lives and causing unnecessary inconvenience to others.
-sudden merging and splitting of lanes.I see this happening all over the place. Two lanes merge and then that one lane merges with another. Then further down the road that one lane splits into two lanes. And then it merges...then it splits..splits...merges...
- traffic lights placed within walking distance of one another.
I see this most acutely at Chinatown. Seems like there is a pedestrian crossing every few metres. This is the anti-thesis of the problem at Serangoon and Geylang above. Both ways the ones that get screwed are the...motorists.
- season parking lots.
I do not live in a HDB flat so maybe this peeve is unique to only me. But so many times when I go visit friends or relatives who do live in HDB areas I find it hard to get a parking lot as all the lots are marked red. Meaning they are designated for season parking only. This is especially so in the new multi-storey car parks. So you have to go to one of the higher floors if you even hope of finding a lot.
- disabled lots
It may come across as politically incorrect but sometimes I wonder if there is any justification for having so many disabled lots.Maybe there is some sort of building code that makes it compulsory to make XX number of disabled lots in every carpark. But most times I find these lots underused and all around are frantic drivers circling looking for an empty lot. Surely there must be a way to rectify the situation.
-SUNTEC CITY
It gets an entry all of its own.Probably a symptom of bad planning. It is hard to find a lot there on weekdays let alone on weekends. Granted it is one of the bigger car parks around and occupies 2 full storeys, but it is still painfully clear that it is inadequate.
I will add more as I think them up...
