My day at playing church..
Went to church today as I usually do on Sundays. Problem is that I forgot my wallet. I left it in by waist pouch and not on the table top like I usually do. Out of sight out of mind. My habit as I leave the house is to grab the stuff I need from the table top. My handphone, my housekeys, my car keys, my coin pouch, my ring, my glasses,my chain,MY WALLET...
One of 2 things, make that 3 things, that I never leave home with are my handphone, wallet... and now my relationship ring. I feel lost without anyone one of those. I did not realise until I had reached Millenia that I did not have my wallet with me. Suddenly all possible worst-case scenarios came to mind,
"What if I run out of fuel.."
"what if a cop pulls me over and asks to see my drivers license.."
"Feel so hungry right now, what if I die midway through church service from starvation..."
"How the hell do I pay my parking fees to get out of the car park without a cash card???"
So I messaged Agnes I told her my situation. Smart move.
my options at that point:
1)go home.I had 15 minutes grace to get out without any parking charge.
2) leave Sunny there and go home to get my wallet after church. They charge a flat fee of $2/- on Sundays so it did not matter how long I was parked.
3)Leave Sunny there and meet Agnes to get money to do whatever needed to be done. See option #2.
4)SOS my mum for help.
5)SOS Lyn and Poh for help. They would be in Suntec as around the same time as me.
6) somehow raise the money to buy a cashcard.
7) Get some kind soul to help me.
8) Do nothing.
9) Get my dearest to come down and save me.*Cue evil laughter and lightning*
So I tried option #5 first. Lyn and Poh were indeed in Suntec. They had attended the service just before mine and were still in the building at the time. The problem was I was already in the auditorium and they were already a good distance away from where I was. It would be inconvenient for them to meet me and for me to get out to meet them. Although Lyn was more than willing to come to my aid I thought better of it. So that was the end of that.
I also thought of asking the car park management if there was a way I could get out without a cashcard. I did have the $2 needed. I just did not have a cashcard per se.
But my way out was rather simpler. I just walked up to a couple who just so happened to be standing on one of the dividers waiting for something (someone?). So I casually walked up to them and asked them if I could borrow a cashcard and then pay them the amount used (in coins) back. The guy ,not wanting to be put in a bad light in front of the lady presumably, readily agreed to help. Not only did he help me with my cashcard-less situation. He even ran to me after I had cleared the gantry just to retrieve back his card. Best part was he did not even want the $2.
So now I am safely home and writing this post all thanks to the nice guy standing on a kerb in a humid car park for no apparent reason who was more helpful than most would ever be in the same situation.
Key word here: Pay It Forward.
