March of the Penguin
Watched March of the Penguins with my sweetheart today. Loved it so much. The cinematography was first rate and the story really tugged at the heart strings of everyone in the audience. There were audible gasps everytime apenguin was in trouble. Laugh-out-loud moments when the animals displayed human-like behavior. And times when what was on screen just made you feel young again as you pointed and marvelled at what just transpired on screen.
The story basically about how the Emperor Penguins forsake the sea and come on land to make an almost pilgrimage-like 'march' to their nesting site far inland. There they go through courting rituals and finally when they are paired-off they mate and lay the prerequisite egg. The journey however does not end there. From there on end the parents take turns keeping the egg warm and feeding respectively. The story is told from the perspective of a family (mum, dad and kid!).
The slight downside, if you can call it that, was that it was in French. French is a lovely language and I have never seen the English version by Morgan Freeman so I could not say which version is better honestly. There is also a Chinese version being shown here. Interestingly the songs featured in the version we watched were in english. Some of the songs really added to the scenes. Yet some of the other songs heard were somewhat inappropriate. Let's just say that when I think of ice and penguins, I do not quite conjure a rave party or a Bjork-like songs playing in the background. But to each his own.
I guess even if you do not like care for animals all that much you would still enjoy the show.
I am most probably also getting the DVD when it comes out just for the sake of it.
