Weekend wrap-up
Sunday
I started the day with a drive to Ubi to pick up Neeven (and her mum and Dillon, her adorable son) to go to church. Neeven's mum wanted to go marketing at Tampines and Dillon normally follows mummy to church where he attends Sunday School.
The service was great. At least I felt more at home than I did the previous week. The previous week's service was basically a prayer service where there was no message preached. And the choice of music for Praise and Worship then were not what I was used to. This weeks service was much better and Pastor Rony's message was great as well. I left the sanctuary feeling renewed and cleansed.
After that we met up with Neeven's mum at the nearby market. There Dilon and I picked up a few pointers from the 2 mummies on how to pick fruits. We then adjourned for lunch at the nearby coffee shop at Dillon's behest. I had a double serving of lunch. I had char siew rice and a nonya dumpling.
I then drove the party home. Neeven invited me up for a drink and to take a look at some photos. There I met Neeven's niece who lives with them. She had chicken pox and was thus unable to join us earlier. It was fun looking through the photos guessing where they were taken. I also had fun playing with Dillon. He is such a joy to be around.I am sure mummy is very proud of him.
After that I drove home to relax before meeting Karen. Unfortunately or not Karen messaged me to tell me that she was unable to make it as she had to rush an assignment. So I just sat at home wondering what to do with the rest of the day...
Just then Noel messaged me to ask me where I was. I told him I was at home. He then asked me if I was keen to go and watch soccer at the National Stadium.I readily agreed. In a while we were both ready and off to the match(es).
During the Malaysia Cup days I used to go there for every Singapore home match. There was no experience quite like being in a stadium with 60,000 other red-blooded fans cheering on the Lions to glory. The spectacle of it all! As the Kallang Roar shook the entire arena and as the Kallang Wave crashed upon you it was very hard not to get drawn into the match infront of you. Glory days indeed...
The veterans match between Singapore and Selangor went down well with all involved. It was great just seeing all these stars of a bygone era gracing the pitch once more. They got a better crowd reaction than the current Singapore team (I do not dare label them Lions)did. It is significant to note that the crowd did not do the Kallang Wave once...not even once....when the Singapore Team was on the pitch. Anyway...the veterans match ended tied at 3-3 and penalties ensued which was subsequently won by the visiting Selangor veterans team.
Inconsequently, the Singapore team drew with Selangor 2-2 and thus shared the cup!
After the match I sent Noel and Leonard (who joined us later) to Tanglin Mall. They asked me to join them at the pub but I declined. I opted instead to go meet Rachelle for supper!!!
I met Rachelle at the car park near her block and we went to the new prata place at Upper Thomson. The prata there is really nice and crispy. Best part is it is not oily like other prata joints I frequent. Rachelle and I will be paying them a visit some time soon again...
