offbeat office shenigans

The big news at the office is that Ai Khim and Doctor are at loggerheads.

It all began like this....
The senior officers all had a meeting on Friday discussing office matters (cos that is what officers do at meetings on Fridays presumably). The topic of contention was the distribution of inspection duties between the import staff and the phytosanitary inspectors. For a while now the import officers have been helping out to do phytosanitary inspections at the expense of our own duties. As a result there is a shortfall when it comes to post-entry inspections and surveillance. Ai Khim of course being the import head has to be held accountable for our shortcomings to the Venerable Mr Yong.

So...there was this meeting where outstanding issues were discussed and goals set for the upcoming year(s). Ai Khim brought up the issue of import inspections and how we (meaning Sin and I) are unable to do both our import duties and help out with phytosanitary matters on a permanent basis without compromising our targets. During the meeting Dr.Ali purportedly agreed to what was proposed.
The problem was that after the afore said meeting Dr went over to the inspectors room and started a tirade about 'how Ai Khim was so unreasonable and demanding'. Of course having work with old Bald Eagle in tandem for a number of years I knew what he was up to. It is his old trick of trying to push the blame and responsibility to others when they are not around. Most of the time people see right through it. The main problem with all of this is that Dr Ali is a Yes Man. He agrees to whatever his superiors say most of the time in the end. The meeting was the time and place for him to voice his views and objections if any. But like the paper tiger that he is, he meekly agreed and then turns around later and lays the blame on poor Ai Khim although she had every right to do to ask for fairness when it comes to job distribution.
Basically what people says about Doctor is true. He lacks testicular fortitude. He tries to portray himself as independent and tough but the reality he is a wimp when it comes to standing up to people when push comes to shove. He has this working philosophy of respecting the Chair. It just means that he respects, and I quote, anyone who sits on the chair(of authority or position)...even a dog! I guess blind allegiance is not lost on him.
The main problem we (import section) have with this whole fiasco is that it is detrimental to staff morale to try to pit us all against one another just to preserve his standing in the office.
On Friday itself Dr Ali commented to Sin about Ai Khim being unreasonable not realising that Sin has priciples. Sin duly feedbacked what Dr had said to Ai Khim.

On Saturday, Esoof came to work and acted rather coldly towards Ai Khim. He passed several sarcastic remarks and was basically a pain in the ass towards Ai Khim. One can only presume that Esoof's action are in connection to the crap Doctor spewed the previous day. Esoof is not the sort to just take it out on people especially honest people like Ai Khim.
Well...today is Ai Khim's birthday but too bad it was not a perfect day for her. It started with her putting out the fires which doctor had stoked on Friday. She went around to all of us explaining the rationale for what was going on and such.

Anyway Happy Birthday boss!!
