thoughts and thinks

  • It is just me but have the mindset of women in Singapore changed or is it just the younger ones? There was a time when if there was a seat next to a man on a bus, the women would he hesitant to take it. It all probably had to do with being perceived as 'cheap', 'easy' or the ever present danger of being molested/raped! So for the journey the seat would be empty until a man or tiredness set in whichever came first. I dunno if my view is correct on this but surely sitting next to a man does not make you cheap/a potential molest victim! So why the hesitance? But at least recently (me not been taking public transport in a while you see) I seem to notice that not all women perceive men as sex fiends. Some actually have no qualms about sitting next to one.
  • Politically Incorrect entry: On the way to meet Agnes today I saw this really fat lady sitting on a seat at one of the bus stops. She was really, really fat! I think she has trouble standing let alone moving around. Anyway the point of my talking about it here is to say that I can't stand people who just take no care of themselves. I mean if you some condition that makes you bloated and makes you gain weight although you eat like a bird, that is one thing. But looking at that woman (presuming here, since I do not know her personally) she does not really care about how she appears. I guess she thinks it is perfectly alright to be obese and unhealthy. Who cares if you one day die of some heart disease or some affliction in connection with your excess body weight? I mean I appreciate 'fleshiness' in a woman but what I saw was ridiculous. And I do not get when people say 'some people are meant to be fat', 'I can't help it' and other such crap. If you do something about it you can look like everyone else!
  • Just love the Marigold banana milk ad campaign. Reason: There is this, dare I say it, sexy cow with a crown made of bananas. So adorable it is (Yoda-speak again??). Best of all it dances! What more can one ask for, a cow, a banana crown, and a dance. Makes me want to rush out to the mamak stall and buy a carton of Marigold Banana Milk right now. Anyway I do love banana milk. My second most favourite flavour after the good old favourite, chocolate.
  • Watched Madagascar. After waiting so long to catch it, it was kind of a let down. After Shrek and Finding Nemo I was expecting something in a similar vein. Something kids and adults could both enjoy. But Madagascar was crap. Visually spectacular, but the story and characters were as flat as a pizza. Not the clever and funny film I was expecting. rating: 2 zebra poos out of 5.
  • Movies I want to catch when they come out: Batman Begins, Mr & Mrs Smith, War of the Worlds (although the trailer did nothing for me),
  • I hate cover versions of songs. Especially cover versions of classic songs. Most of them anyway. Although once in a blue moon a cover version may come along that does justice to the original or surpasses it even, those are few and far between. The main culprits are these boy bands/girl bands/struggling artistes/has-beens that see such songs as a meal ticket to fame as they are easy recognisable and bound to get some airplay. Another crime against humanity are Techno versions of songs. And people actually pay to listen to such crap. And a local radio station even makes such 'music' a mainstay of its playlist. Go figure. People who desecrate great classic songs should be shot. Make that tied up, covered in honey and made to lie naked on a red ant mound to die a sloooww...paaaaainful death. Of course I am always open to suggestions to methods to make these suckers pay.
  • Went to the Marry Brown's at Changi Airport T2 yesterday. Let me just say that Marry Browns is my favourite fried chicken. I do not mind the drive into JB or wherever in Malaysia to get my fill of it. So I was happy that Marry Brown's had finally come to our shores! I was raring to get down there and feast on their chicken. So down we went to T2. To be honest though, the food did not even taste like the chicken I have come to love and know. Worst of all the service was kinda sucky. The lady who attended to us was 'blur'. Kept mixing up the orders and stuff. But given that it is a newly opened stall the taste and bad service is forgivable.
  • Hasli been trying to get me to watch Phua Chu Kang-the musical with him and Faezah. I have been adamant not to go. I think it is classless crap, 3 million budget or not. I mean PCK is bad enough on the small screen let alone as a musical on stage. The sitcom has already passed its sell-by date. It is stale and the jokes corny. Anyway you can rest assured the VCD, DVD and television special will be out in time. So I will just wait and see. No way I am gonna spend my hard earned cash on crap like PCK-the musical.

you have 2 cows..

was looking for stuff on the Marigold Banana Milk Cow but this turned up so it is reproduced here in full from mrbrown.com:

Politics lesson with the cow.

FEUDALISM: You have two cows. Your lord takes some of the milk.

PURE SOCIALISM: You have two cows. The government takes them and puts them in a barn with everyone else's cows. You have to take care of all the cows. The government gives you as much milk as you need.

BUREAUCRATIC SOCIALISM: You have two cows. The government takes them and puts them in a barn with everyone else's cows. They are cared for by ex-chicken farmers. You have to take care of the chickens the government took from the chicken farmers. The government gives you as much milk and as many eggs as the regulations say you should need.

FASCISM: You have two cows. The government takes both, hires you to take care of them, and sells you the milk.

PURE COMMUNISM: You have two cows. Your neighbors help you take care of them, and you all share the milk.

RUSSIAN COMMUNISM: You have two cows. You have to take care of them, but the government takes all the milk.

DICTATORSHIP: You have two cows. The government takes both and shoots you.

SINGAPOREAN DEMOCRACY: You have two cows. The government fines you for keeping two unlicensed farm animals in an apartment.

MILITARIANISM: You have two cows. The government takes both and drafts you.

PURE DEMOCRACY: You have two cows. Your neighbors decide who gets the milk.

REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY: You have two cows. Your neighbors pick someone to tell you who gets the milk.

AMERICAN DEMOCRACY: The government promises to give you two cows if you vote for it. After the election, the president is impeached for speculating in cow futures. The press dubs the affair "Cowgate".

BRITISH DEMOCRACY: You have two cows. You feed them sheeps' brains and they go mad. The government doesn't do anything.

BUREAUCRACY: You have two cows. At first the government regulates what you can feed them and when you can milk them. Then it pays you not to milk them. After that it takes both, shoots one, milks the other and pours the milk down the drain. Then it requires you to fill out forms accounting for the missing cows..

ANARCHY: You have two cows. Either you sell the milk at a fair price or your neighbors try to kill you and take the cows.

CAPITALISM: You have two cows. You sell one and buy a bull.

HONG KONG CAPITALISM: You have two cows. You sell three of them to your publicly - listed company, using letters of credit opened by your brother - in - law at the bank, then execute a debt/equity swap with associated general offer so that you get all four cows back, with a tax deduction for keeping five cows. The milk rights of six cows are transferred via a Panamanian intermediary to a Cayman Islands company secretly owned by the majority shareholder, who sells the rights to all seven cows' milk back to the listed company. The annual report says that the company owns eight cows, with an option on one more. Meanwhile, you kill the two cows because the feng shui is bad.

ENVIRONMENTALISM: You have two cows. The government bans you from milking or killing them.

FEMINISM: You have two cows. They get married and adopt a veal calf.

TOTALITARIANISM: You have two cows. The government takes them and denies they ever existed. Milk is banned.

COUNTER CULTURE: Wow, dude, there's like... these two cows, man. You got to have some of this milk.

SURREALISM: You have two giraffes. The government requires you to take harmonica lessons.

LIBERTARIANISM: You have two cows. One has actually read the constitution, believes in it, and has some really good ideas about government. The cow runs for office, and while most people agree that the cow is the best candidate, nobody except the other cow votes for her because they think it would be "throwing their vote away."

song of the moment...

Running to Stand Still

And so she woke up
Woke up from where she was
Lying still
Said I gotta do something
About where we're going

Step on a steam train
Step out of the driving rain, maybe
Run from the darkness in the night
Singing ha, ah la la la de day
Ah la la la de day
Ah la la de day

Sweet the sin
Bitter taste in my mouth
I see seven towers
But I only see one way out

You got to cry without weeping
Talk without speaking
Scream without raising your voice

You know I took the poison
From the poison stream
Then I floated out of here
Singing...ha la la la de day
Ha la la la de day
Ha la la de day

She runs through the streets
With her eyes painted red
Under black belly of cloud in the rain
In through a doorway she brings me
White gold and pearls stolen from the sea
She is raging
She is raging
And the storm blows up in her eyes
She will...

Suffer the needle chill
She's running to stand...

Still.

Oh, the irony of it all...

Shapelle Corby gets 20 years for trafficking marijuna.

What does militant Islamic cleric Abu Bakar Bashir get over his involvement in the Bali bombings that led to the deaths of 202 people, destruction of several buildings and the loss of the tourist dollar in Bali?

30 months jail.

And to add insult to injury they have taken into account the 10 months he has been in custody. So in effect, he has to serve only 20 months!

blogs..and blogs...and blogs...

ever since I set up a special section for other blogs..the blogs list has been getting longer and longer and longer. everytime i come across a vaguely interesting blog i will put up a link for it. At this rate I think I am gonna have to set up another blog just for the links to other blogs. Imagine..a blog about other blogs..

Sunny News

Sent the van I knocked into to the workshop for some knocking and painting. After much searching and haggling we managed to find a shop that did it for $150. A good deal by any standards.

As for Sunny, I sent him to Kranji Way for his repairs. The guy quoted $400 for it which I think is better than most other places. But getting back from Kranji was a real hassle. They only have one bus, which comes infrequently. That together with the hot weather today made it unbearable. To drive the point further I took bus 925 hoping to get to Kranji MRT station. But it turns out that the bus I took was headed to Choa Chu Kang. Drats! So I got off at Woodlands Road and took a cab home. Cost me $8.20.

Cost of van:$150
Cost of car:$400
Cab fare: $8.20
Total costs: $558.20
Look on my face as I am typing this: Priceless

the week in review

Kylie's breast cancer scare is over. Yayyy...

Just love Marrybrown's.Wish they had a restaurant here in Singapore. Listen to their jingle!! Hee..

the pics of our recent Desaru trip and stuff are up at 2004 and 2005.

Made some 'subtle' changes to my blog. My blogs are now at the top, links after that and my regular blog fix's after that. Gonna change the background (again!) in due time. Cannot stand looking at myself. And maybe do the link-box thing like Nadia, but not quite.

All the hoo-haa about the arrest, charging and sentencing of Schapelle Corby has come to a head. I was not following the case until quite recently. The furore arose as the defense claimed that the drugs were planted by Aussie airport officials and that she was innocent. Poor single, white female she was portrayed as. But as time went on more and more details about the defendant came out into the open. Turns out that she and her family have quite a criminal past. So miss goodie-two-shoes is gonna spend the next 20 years in jail unless she gets a presidential pardon. Meanwhile 'all' of Australia is convinced that it was a miscarriage of justice and want to boycott Bali (or all of Indonesia for that matter) and want the money that went to the aid of the tsunami victims back. Which gives credence to wat the New Zealander's have been saying all along,"Bloody sheep-fuc***, Aussies!... Ptooi!"

Watched Monster-in-law with Agnes on Friday. It marks the return of Jane Fonda to the big screen after her long hiatus. The movie also shows what an underrated actress Jennifer Lopez is. J Lo. first warmed our hearts with her convincing portrayal of Selena, the story of the slain Tejano singer. Since then it has been hits (Out of Sight, the campy Anaconda,Shall We Dance)and misses(Gigli anyone?, Jersey Girl). Anyway was a great, funny movie that brought out the best in both the leads actresses. Viola (Fonda) has just been fired from her job as a high-powered Barbara Walters-type interviewer. After suffering a meltdown on national television -- when she tries to strangle a Britney Spears clone -- she's committed to a posh mental hospital. Wanda Sykes is hilarious as her assistant with the acid tongue. Their scenes together are worth the admission price alone.

Honestly.
Sometimes I think I am too honest for my own good. Case in point: The recent roll back of Sunny into a neighbours van. I could have easily have gotten away with it scot-free. But I had to go and do the right thing and duly informed the owner and now I am left on tenterhooks now quite sure what is gonna happen next. The damage done to the van was not extensive but just the uncertainty of it makes in a real pain in the ass. You just want it all to be over as soon as possible but it has been over a week and still it is unsettled.
I guess I will always be me. Honest as I can be. I rather be honest and pay the price than lie to get out of a mess. *sigh*

On his part though, Sunny is starting to rust at the point of impact. Better get him done sooner rather than later before the rust really sets in.

It is not that I do not like Agnes's mum .It is just that we simply have this language problem that shows no sign of being overcome. That is why I find it easier to converse with her dad and sister,"Phyy-lissss", than her. I just wish I could talk to her more. Would make both our lives alot easier. It doesn't help that Agnes does not make a good interpreter most times. *wink*

Which brings me to how I seem to get along better with older men. Many of my closest (nearly typed 'closet' with all its loaded connotations) pals are older men and I seem to be able to talk to them quite freely. Not so with older women. I have to always be on my guard when they are around. It is like they are always on the prowl for things to say about all you do. Hardly a kind word for anyone. I guess menopause would be the easy culprit but I think the problem lies deeper than that...

DID MY FISH TANK YESTERDAY. Prunes the plants and removed lots of the smut at the top and bottom of the tank. Now it looks brighter and more cheery. Not sure if the fish feel the same way though. They love hiding amongst the plants and now I have removed much of it the tank looks emptier. The cichilid tank with its lone fish is still in a state of decrepitity though.

Camou and the cats got their nails trimmed this morning. Quite a sight to see. cats and dogs generally do not enjoy nail trimmings and today was no exception. Some just sat there looking sad. Others struggled throughout. Others resorted to 'mewing' their way through ther ordeal.

Did not attend church again today. That officially makes it 1 month since I last went. *sigh*

Supposedly gonna go with Selvam (the guy whose van door slammed into Sunny..lol) to get it done tomorrow. Hope he keeps to his word. Reason? See above.

Signed up to Tomorrow.com. But I still have no idea how the whole deal works. I guess the editors choose the 'cool' stuff from all the blogs and post them on the site or something. But who decides what is cool and what is not?

Chinese Anti-Japan Riots Quelled by 11-year-old F-Cup Japanese Beauty

In the recent growing discord between China and Japan, 11-year-old Saaya Irie may prove to be a key ingredient in establishing peace again, claims the Japanese periodical(Shukan Bunshun) . In an article roughly translated as “Chinese Anti-Japan Riots Quelled by 11-year-old F-Cup Japanese Beauty”, they mentioned that one of her revealing bikini photos caused a sensation on a Chinese bulletin board once posted.
