Movie reviews: Ultraviolet and Ice Age 2: The Meltdown

Ultraviolet
I went in expectantly to watch this movie despite the panning it got from the critics. In the end my worst fears were realised. It is one of those try-to-be-arty farty (not quite) movies that promises much but under-delivers. The plot is wafer thin. The various fight scenes are unbelievable. You have to suspend all logic in order to take in the film. In fact I think it is one of the dumbest films in recent memory. The supportting cast was abysymal. They had no character development and lack any on screen charisma.Thankfully Milla Jovovich has screen presence and a body to die for.

Ice Age 2:The Meltdown
I watched and enjoyed the first installment. The second movie overcomes the Curse of the Sequel in that it is better in many aspects than the first one. The kind of movie adults and kids can enjoy alike. The premise of IA2 is that the ice age is over and the ice caps are melting. Meaning the valley in which the animals live in is gonna be flooded in a matter of days. So everyone has to get to the end of the valley to escape the impending flood, Noah Ark style.
The main characters are also more fleshed out here too. Manny the morose wooly mammoth faces the impending end of his species if he cant find a mate assuming that he is the last of his species.Talk about coming to terms with your own mortality. Diego the slimy sabre-toothed tiger of the first installment turns out to be a teeny-weeny puddy tat when his aversion to water become apparent. He has to overcome his hydrophobia to save his friends. Sid the Sloth wants respect from his chums but finds little in the way. Enough said.
Our 3 pals are joined by Ellie, a female mammoth who thinks she is a possum, and her 2 possum brothers, Crash & Eddie. It is a fun journey as each of the protagonist learn more about themselves and their friends as they endeavour to reach the proverbial end of the valley. And who can forget my favourite character: Scrat the Saber Toothed Squirrel? We see ourselves in his plight, as he relentlessly goes about collecting his nut(s). Despite all his tribulations(including death) he finds himself no closer to finding his dream nut. A little parable in there for all of us.

a new title and description

Been a while since I last posted anything here. Been cos I been busy with my hamster stuff. I been posting there alot and all. The other reason being is seems all my once loyal readers have deserted me somewhat. No one seems to be leaving any comments. If you want me to post more do leave comments...

Hamster births
Mimi and Momo and now the proud parents of 4 lovely pups. She gave birth on Wednesday. 2 of the pups did not make it past the first few hours. But otherwise Mimi has been a good mum.

In other news, I recently did a thorough cleanout of my fish tank filter. You will be surprised how much crap gets into the filter. The tubes and all the accessories were cleaned and rinsed in warm water. Lots of the tubing and filter media were literally black and filled with waste matter.

Saw pictures of Kylie Minogue post-cancer scare with her shorter cropped hair. She still looks as radiant as ever.

Caught the CNA Q & A thingy with Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and various young people from the popular media. I really admire the guts of the young panel to ask such probing questions. MM Lee for his part held his own giving stock answers to all their queries.
Looks like the election machinery is moving into "4th gear". PAP and the usual suspects have been presenting their new candidates for public scrutiny. Much ado about when the elections will be called. For most elections is like another public holiday. But I think for me it is gonna be work as usual as I am an appointed Counter by the elections branch. So if my ward gets contested I will be there right front and centre. As far as the new candidates go, once again the PAP plays on an uneven playing field. PAP newbies get front page publicity in the papers and their credentials announced on national radio. Whereas opposition candidates only get small articles hidden deep within the rectal cavities of the daily papers. And all the senior PAP members get free publicity as they 'present' their new candidates and appear on TV in specially crafted PR segments.

Agnes has been busy with her tests, projects and presentations. That means me be a lonely guy this Easter weekend. Maybe shoulda taken an overseas trip. Too bad I have to work on saturday too. Thing will resume as normal after the 25th when Agnes work will be complete, or so she says.

Looking out for the new Jewel & LIVE cd's. i hear the singles on the radio but do not see the albums out in stores...yet....

On the 29th I am hosting the Singapore Hamster Clubs gathering cum outing at my house. Hopefully the weather is good and the people do turn up. Agnes says she is gonna be there. Maybe even Faezah(and Hasli) may turn up. Potluck is the order of the day.

Buffy, Spike and Angel (my Sapphire Winter Whites) have grown lots since I first got them. Today I let Momo play with them to no ill effect. They are bigger than Momo even.In fact one of the SWW even subjugated himself to Momo although they are approximately the same in stature.Go figure. Just wait till Mimi is back in commission again...

Dad recently underwent a day surgery to remove a cyst in his throat region.

Won an Ice Age 2 hamper from MTV Asia. It included a beach pack(consisting of beach towel and slippers), a watch, a radio, a mobile phone tag, a fleece blanket and a polo shirt. Gave Agnes the beach set. Kept the blanket and shirt for myself and gave the rest to mum to distribute to my nephew.
