First a piece of news just in; Noel and Ant are having their ROM on 22nd January. It is gonna be conducted at Acte D' Amour, the very same place Agnes and myself had ours. Hopefully there will no deja vu moments.

We went down to the KIA showroom down at Alexandra Road on wednesday to take a look at the Picanto. As much as I like the Picanto, my wife's opinions matter a lot to me, and Agnes did not quite like the seating of the Picanto, so that put paid to any aspirations to get me one of those. On the other hand Agnes just loves the Mitsubishi Grandis.

Admittedly the Grandis is a wonderful car, luxurious in many respects and handles great for a car of it's size. But the price is a bit daunting for someone like me who is on a budget, with financial obligations on the horizon.
Price? nearly $90,000
Which is not exactly in the upper echelons of car prices. But still something we can work towards.
But we managed to hop and skip next door to look at a place with some nice furniture at what I would consider to be reasonable prices. May just visit that place again.

So now our search for a new set of wheels has shifted over to the 2nd hand car market. We will probably in due time make visits to some of the used car centres to take a look at the options available to us. The Chinese cars do hold promise, but the safety and reliabilty aspects are still suspect, before I can even consider a china-made car.
Although we did manage to waltz next door to find a furniture shop selling nice furniture at reasonable prices. Will probably go back there after considering all our options.

On the other side of things, Agnes is starting work next week at her 'dream job'. Hope things go well and she has a blessed career. In the meantime, she has yet to complete her thesis and will have to re-visit NUS in the weeks (and maybe even months) to come as she works towards obtaining her Masters. So she is gonna have to juggle her work, family and school responsibilities all at once come January.
Concurrently we have to finalise some of the details for our Bedok flat soon, if we hope to start renovation works any time soon. Then there is the small matter of our customary wedding dinner. Seems like a whole lot on our plate for the year 2008.

Speaking of plates, we had a more than delightful dinner last night at East Coast Food Centre. The food was great. The portions generous. Service (or PR as Agnes so deftly put it) was up to par. The place?

We order our perennial favourite sambal stingray, prawn with tofu and some vegetable and mushroom dish. And all 3 dishes exceeded our expectations. We both went home exceedingly full, yet satisfied. Geat value for if ever I saw one. This is probably the stall we will patronise whenever we decide to dine at east coast from now onwards.

Christmas dinner was great as Ant and Noel treated us once more to their gastronomical treats. Needless to say it was one of the most enjoyable dinners in recent memory.

As far as presents go:

Noel and Ant: a mickey mouse t-shirt
Jack: a pair of socks
Mrs Soh: A pair squirrels/pandas/brown racoons
Leo: a FX wallet

My 3 wishes for the new year:
kind of the same as every year. just variations of the same themes.

#1: a blessed marriage.
Although we been legally married six months, we have yet to live together nor do many of the things that a married couple do. In 2008 we will probably will set about putting that right. The house will be ready and the wedding dinner preparations will be umm..prepared. Then there are some issues we have to resolve before anything can be done. With Christ as the head of our household a marriage is blessed and favoured in all matters.

#2: A position in my career.
I do not quite know what 2008 hold for me in this area. I may very well be seconded to Pasir Panjang Wholesale Cenre come April. Even if I do stay in Sembawang, I may tender my resignation anyway if I do decide to go my own way and start up a business of my own. Anyway this wish is all about being in a financially stable situation and being able to use my position to influence people in a positive way and further my life goals. I believe all of us have a part to play in our world, and it is imperative for those of us in positions of authority and influence to use that influence to make this world a better place for everyone.

#3: a good set of wheels
In my work and family life a car is rather important. or so it seems right now. Sunny is getting a little long in tooth, and repairs/maintainance can be a rather costly exercise. So it may be worthwhile to consider a new set of wheels rather than continually sending him in for repairs each time he splutters to a stop and breaks down. In fact if you count back all I spent on Sunny since he fell onto my lap, I probably could have saved up for a pretty good car. As stated near the beginning of this post I was kinda looking for a small economical car, but that would be selling the providence of God short if I asked so little of Him, when he is willing and able to give so much. Still premature to speculate on what kind of vehicle I will get, if any, but I know that whatever happens it will be exceeding and abundantly above all I can wish or hope.
