Crikey!

Sad to hear the news about the untimely demise of one of the icons of conservation, Steve 'Crcodile Hunter' Irwin. The only consolation we can draw from all of this is that he died doing what he loved and believed in.
How is it that someone who defied death on his escapades with killer sharks, huge crocodiles, poisonous snakes and other dangerous creatures, could meet his end by one of the most docile creatures of the sea?
The outpouring of emotion since the news of the demise of Steve came out has been unprecedented, not unlike the same emotions at the death of the beloved Prncess Diana.
Of course in the wake of this sad episode, some distasteful jokes have been made and some unkind comments have been made.Amongst his chief critics is outspoken Australian feminist Germaine Greer. Her comments are ill-timed and entirely inappropriate coming days after his death. She is obviously using this to chalk up political mileage.
I think all the superlatives that could be used to describe his work and mission has already been exhausted. All I can add here is that there will never be another Steve Irwin.

In other news Japan's Princess Kiko has given birth to the royal family's first boy in more than 40 years, easing a succession crisis and silencing calls to let a woman lead the world's oldest monarchy...for now.

The Singapore Zoo will no longer import animals from the Arctic, following concerns raised by an animal welfare group ,ACRES, about the zoo's resident polar bears, Sheba and her son Inuku. Which is kinda sad when lobby groups get in the way of conservation efforts by a recognised international zoo. What next? No penguins and seals? No elephants??
There is no way that any zoo can replicate the natural environment of any animal, but sure as hell great effort has been made. If i am not wrong this is not the first time ACRES has kicked up a fuss about the goings-ons at the Zoo. They took exception to the animal shows and the animal photography amongst other matters.

Changes are abound in Japan and in the UK. New prime Ministers? At least in Japan he is stepping aside. In the UK Tony Blair is being coerced to quit due to pressures from within his own party. I just wonder why people just cant get along. It seems ever so often a country wants their leaders to quit, resign or be impeached. Does not help anything. Makes you wonder what they were thinking when they cast their vote on ballot day.

Mickey Mouse in Singapore? Could soon be a reality. There have been rumours that Disney is in talks to open a theme park in the Marina bay area. This coming after the plans for a 'Disneyland' in JB went south(literally). Singapore Boleh!

The World Bank/IMF Conference will be coming up in a few days. During the interim all roads leading in and out of the Marina area will be closed. So quite a number of Singaporeans (especially those who reside in the east side) will be inconvenienced by the closures. Public has been advised to take public transport. So look out for more jams. And packed trains and buses.
Also it seems that many hotels who were expecting an influx of delegates, ended up with empty rooms to spare. It seems that everyone figured with the Conference in town that all hotels especially those near and about the Marina area would be over-booked. Hotels and travel agents blacked out those dates and turned away would-be tourist in order to accomodate the expected delegates. But as it turns out, it is a party with no guest.

Singapore detained two animal rights activists who were planning a naked demonstration outside a Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) outlet in downtown Singapore on Friday, wearing nothing but a banner reading "Naked Truth: KFC Tortures Chicks."
Aww.... but I was really in the mood for some breast and thighs....*sulk*
