The New Thing

Finally added a second blog linked to this one.I will be posting pictures there instead of here in the future, cos pictures slow down the page loading.
The link is on the right.I will also link my blogs here to the corresponding picture blogs there(do you get it so far?).

The new blog has a different look to this one (for one, one is black and the other is white). In due time I will get both of them looking alike.

So meanwhile...ogle away...

I went walking with a staff of wood...yea..yea..yea..yeah..

I went to explore the newly opened Tree Tops Walk at Macritchie Reservoir today. To see the pictures click here

I went to see the new Tree Tops Walk (TTW) at Macritchie today. The trail is about 10.3 kilometres in total from the reservoir itself to the bridge and back again. I had planned to complete the entire trail but in the end I took a slightly less tedious route which amounted to close to 7 kilometres (not that it was any less taxing).

I started off from MacRitchie near the Little Sister's of the Poor along Upper Thomson Road. I managed to find the route without much difficulty. I had read in the papers of people getting lost and going the wrong way etc. The route was well signed all along the trail.

I was fortunate (read:blessed) that it was a cloudy day and did not rain. Through most of my trip, I was alone. But as I was moving at a brisk pace I managed to catch up with those in front in no time and also encountered joggers going in the opposite direction.

After over 3 kilometres of walking I reached to the area near the Island Country Club (ICC). From there the route went along the road parallel to the golf course and then round the perimeter of the Bukit Kalang Reservoir which is atop a hill. From there you have to scale Bukit Pierce to get to the TTW. TTW spans between Bukit Pierce and Bukit Kalang ,the 2 highest points in Macritchie. I have no idea how long it took me to reach there. I approximate about an hour plus.

From the suspension bridge you can see to Senoko or even beyond on a clear day. The view is breathtaking. The only other view that comes close in my view is the view from Mount Faber.

The height from the bridge to the forest floor is about 25 metres (about 12 floors!). As traffic across the bridge is one way from Bt.Pierce across to Bt. Kalang, so hikers have to make a long detour round the trail to get back to the other side (Bukit Pierce). The added distance is approximately 2 kilometres. The worst part was the trail back to Bt.Pierce consisted of several uphills and downhills. So it is definitely the most ardous part of the trail. If overcome by fatique or due to lack of concentration one may find oneself tumbling down a flight of stairs. No wonder they advise against the elderly and kids taking part.

After making my way successfully back,I opted to return home via ICC towards Island Club Road instead of making my way back to MacRitchie proper. Although it was still a long trek, at least it was less taxing and provided a change of scenery. The old route was kinda dull as you were literally surrounded by trees most of the way. When you have seen one tree, you have seen them all.

In retrospect, it woulda been more enjoyable if I had driven to ICC and parked along the road instead of taking the bus to MacRitchie and making the long hike to TTW. You live;you learn.

As I had made my way to Upper Thomson Road I decided to walk home instead of taking a bus. That added like another 2.5 kilometres(maybe less) to my walk.

And that was the end....

weekend blues

This was the long awaited Deepavali/Hari Raya weekend. But for me it feels so empty. It is hard to describe how it feels to be in a relationship and yet feel so alone and almost forgotten.

We did not meet on Deepavali. We did not meet on Saturday either. Not to mention today as well. We did meet up on Friday for dinner, and met up for church on Sunday but both of those were non-events. It was almost as though we were on a first date. There was uncomfortable silence, awkward body language and all. It was as though she did not want to be there and was only present because I wanted her to.

I had hoped that after all we went through before that she would have grown up this time around, but it looks like she is still the insecure little girl I used to know. There is still time and there is still hope for us yet, but only if she gets both her feet back on the ground and out of the clouds. Having dreams and ambitions are fine but it should never be at the expense of those you love. She is blessed that the other party in our relationship is me.Any other guy would have given up on her long ago.It can really burn you out being in a relationship where you are never sure of the other persons priorities and commitment.I am so tired and frustrated about the way things are going but I am not the type to give up on those I care about, and I am not about to start now.

I just hope she make the right choice....

The last 2 sms'es Joyce sent me today:

I find everything so aim less...No idea where m i heading....dun know what to do... I don't want to point out other's shortcomings cos i know i m not perfect...But i m confused and afraid..Jus want to be alone...I am very very tired...Hope u can understand ...

I m really impressed with yr gracious atitude ....Thanks for not forcing me and giving me the time to overcome my fear ...U will be blessed too.

It looks like me and Joyce will be taking some time apart for now. She has to go and overcome her fear and confusion (whatever that means). Hopefully she will be back and better than before.

My guess she feels insecure about how things are in her life. I love her dearly but sometimes in life you have to make difficult decisions. I hope she sees the folly of her ways before it is too late.I can be patient and 'gracious' but even I have my limitations. I can't always be the pro-active one in our relationship. It takes two to make it work!
