Coconuts kill about 150 people each year. That’s more than sharks.

wah..where to start...

As for the situation regrading the phone line, I called Singtel up and they said it will all be done on the 25th together with the broadband installation and Mio TV stuff. which is all well and good if it were true...

Been unwell last few days, and finally took the step to see the doctors before it escalates (or is it deteriorates?) any further. was feeling better already yesterday but still went to see the doc anyway. I was looking forward to the weekend together with Agnes, so did not want to take any chances by being sick and unable to do anything sporty. as it is with any flu-like ailment, the medication given makes one drowsy, rendered unable to drive or operate machinery. lol. which means I have to time my medication-taking times so that they do not interrupt my worm and mealtimes. would not be nice to fall asleep in the office, whilst driving or at the dinner table. might even be slightly dangerous. of course the other way around my problem is to take an MC, which the doctor did offer me, which I subsequently declined. a busy few days at work, so I could not afford to take leave. anyway I have to set a good example for my colleagues...

one of my favourite things (beside all my other favourite things, that is)is watching WWE wrestling. Loved it since I was a kid and it has followed me even through my growing years until today. Anyway the point I am getting to (eventually) is that now cable TV on Starhub is up to speed to what the viewers in the US are getting. previously the only way to get up to date news was to go online to the various sites to find out what is new. Raw now is only 2 days behind the live show on wednesdays.Likewise with ECW on Thursdays. Even better is Smackdown on Fridays which is shown on the same day itself. never been a better time to be a wrestling fanatic.

Whitey/Snowy/Putih is doing fine. amazing how quickly he has assimilated into the Boyd home. I was quite prepared for lots of teething problems and troubles introducing him to a life in a confined space, but he has taken rather well to being a domesticated cat. the only issues I can point out are that he seems to have lost some weight over the days he been here, and that he seems to be losing fur from his nose area upwards towards his forehead. not very sure what caused it (the hair loss not the weight). He may be scratching his face a bit too much. otherwise it may be some sort of skin irritation localized at his face area. as for the seeming weight loss, it may be attributed to the amount and types of food he is being fed. He used to get fresh fish, canned food and dried pellets when he was at the office, but now his diet consists predominantly of dried pellets. not sure how much and how often he is fed, but at the office he got fed 3 to 4 times a day!

anyway came across this video just today:

I am extremely proud of having been a former Josephian (and a Michaelian to boot, too bad St. Michael's is no more). When I look back, those were the best days of my life. when i see my former schoolmates now, it is interesting to see how far so many of us have come since those days. The video above only portrays a fraction of the many, many, many great men who walked those hallowed halls of my alma mater. in fact to list them all would be a post unto itself. Like a who's who of the movers and shakers of Singapore. Those five years, 3 in the old campus at Bras Basah & 2 at the new building at Malcolm Rd, probably had more than alot to do with where I am now in my life right now.
SJI ROXS!!!!!

and now a plug for the 2 new entrants to My Fav Blogs:
Yummy Mummy has one of the better blogs about baby related stuff. she even has a diaper cake business going on in there someplace. well written and always engaging. no wonder her blog is getting so many hits. and best of all, she is my sister-in-law!
you can find her at http://babyboydblog.blogspot.com/

The other new blog link belongs to Yawning Bread. Although I may not always agree with everything he says, admittedly he puts out thought-provoking posts about life in the little dot we called Singapore. although it may not be every one's cup of tea, I just love reading his political commentaries and observations on local faux pas. His recent posts include subjects like the death penalty, free speech, censorship and sodomy. what is there not to like? as well as his articles on local affairs, he is also an outspoken advocate for gay acceptance and a champion for homosexual issues ( I realise this sentence does not do justice to what he is doing). the archives go as far back as 1996!!
you can read all about Alex Au and read all his articles at http://www.yawningbread.org/

there will be more spring-cleaning in the days and weeks to come.

also added 3 widgets to my blog. much easier than how I did it previously by updating it manually for our various month-versaries and the countdown to our wedding banquet. it looks nice, and complements the current blog background picture too. by some coincidence it is the exact same size as the image links on my blog. remains how to be seen how it will look once I change the blog template again.

and what about em' Olympics? Michael Phelps garners 8 gold medals, making him officially the greatest athlete of all time. but sometimes greatness is not measured in terms of accolades won. Then there is the inimitable Usain Bolt. winning the 100 m sprint in a previously unthinkable 9.69 seconds. he now holds the world and Olympic records in both the 100 metres and 200 metres sprints. Whilst we are at it, what do they feed the Jamaicans? They are sweeping all the sprint medals. So much so that the US is fast losing ground to China in the medals table. The US was banking on the athletics events to claw their way back into contention, but instead they now find themselves having to rank alongside Russia, the UK and Australia in the slipstream of the China juggernaut.
and Singapore got a silver medal in the table tennis team event. much has been made regarding these 'imported players' and whether their success is a hollow one seeing that none of them is born here, and one of them even got her citizenship a mere 6 months ago. much the same has been said about Tao Li, our swimmer who placed fifth in her event, that they are just mercenaries here to make a quick buck at the expense of our eagerness to succeed on the highest stage of sport. maybe I will discuss more of that in a later post,if ever.
meanwhile Li Jiawei is in the semi-finals of the singles competition. here is to hoping she gets at least a bronze for her troubles. she is just one win away from a medal. but she has been known to choke on the big occasion at times. hope her nerves hold...

There are no clocks in Las Vegas gambling casinos.

Well...finally confirmed the details of our next overseas trip. between 4th September and 7th September we will be in Bangkok, Thailand. We had won the hotel stay at the bridal fair at Traders Hotel and had to redeem it before September end, so we made plans. As it turned out it was far easier to make the reservations through the bangkok office than either the Singapore or KL ones. Go figure.
As dubious as this may sound to my readers, this is the first time in a long time that Agnes and myself have gone overseas for a holiday. Those overseas trips with Agnes on her work do not count.
*waiting for all the haters to send in their I-hate-You comments*

Also this week I finally changes my phone yet again. My contract was up for renewal and I did so. I had been eyeing the Motorola Q9h for a while now. And best part of it all? It was free. It will take some getting used to with the new phone. it is significantly bigger than all my previous phones. almost PDA sized. and it has a Qwerty board. so I have to learn how to use it and get used to carrying it about.

and the new EPL season started yesterday!
I am hoping to see Newcastle and Liverpool showing marked improvement. For Newcastle to finish amongst the euro places and to do well in the cups would be fine by me. as for Liverpool, I would love it, really love it if they are able to be up challenging for the Premiership or thereabouts this season. They are long overdue for another title win and Man U are catching up to their record. With the latest additions, especially Robbie Keane, Liverpool look on paper to be their best squad of the Benitez era.

the search for a new bed is ongoing.saw a really neat sofa/chair at IKEA the other day. they called it a Lycksele. it cost $70 for the frame of the chair. and the cheapest mattress/cushion cost $95. so it comes up to about $165 for the setup. then there is an option of cushion covers....

and yeah.... it looks and feels much better than it looks in the picture above with the cushion on and when laid out.
see?

As for the new phone line at the flat, I tried on saturday to plug in the phone and dial out, but there was no tone. I thought there was something wrong with the phone, but when I tried the phone at home it worked fine. So I can safely surmise that either the line is faulty or was not activated. I will call them tomorrow to clarify things...
