The week in summary

Normally I do not touch on the weekdays cos nothing of note happens anyway.

This week I was hardly ever at my PC doing my TradeNet stuff. It was because I was busy under the tutelage of Ana learning how to cashier. It seems the main difficulty I have is all the extra paperwork we have to do as cashier. I do not remember it being that way when I used to help out as cashier before. Maybe it has something to do with Ana being culpable for making mistakes ever so often. So the paperwork supposedly minimises the margin of error. But in my honest opinion it only makes a complicated process even more complicated. So it is no longer a straightforward proposition to perform your cashiering duties. In addition to the actual cashiering, you have to document all transactions and consolidate all the cheques etc. No wonder Ana complains so much. It is a silly system that is manpower intensive. Bleh!! Civil Service..what to do??

I also managed to go out with my beloved Lyn for an audit for one of the fumigation companies accredited by us. Lyn followed me around to a few of the places in Tuas and Jurong before our appointment at 1130 at Jurong Port Road. Was nice to be alone with my sis for a few hours. It is not something we get to do very often these days. The audit itself was fun.The guys from the company were really nice and Lyn was ever-so-patient with all of us(me included). It was my first time participating in an accreditation audit for a fumigation company so it was fun. I know it would not have been the same had Dr.Ali been the one conducting the audit.
After the audit we excused ourselves and declined their invitation to lunch.Instead we went to West Coast Hawker Centre for lunch. Lyn even bought sugar cane juice for mummy Ana and her sweetheart Poh.All together now...awwwww...... :P

On friday, I had to go out for inspections once again. This time I took the opportunity to meet up Hasli for lunch near his place.Enough said.

All in all a rather different kind of week. Mostly good I would say.

Saturday

Was off today!! Woopeedooo!! Second week in a row. Next week again!!

Slept in abit later than usual. Met up with Joyce in the afternoon. We went to Yishun to run some errands and just window shop.Joyce was looking for a new handphone. Apprently her X70 was ging some problems.Something to do with it being unable to charge up well. So we went around looking for a new Nokia as well as to search for the best trade-in price for her X70.

After that we took a drive around about the Seletar Dam area. We were hoping to see Hasli there but he had already left at around 2 o'clock. When I messaged him he was already at home playing some PC game. We then took a drive into the road leading to Seletar Country Club. After reaching the end, we turned back and went into the Seletar Air base area. It was kinda cool to drive around Seletar Camp. The village kinda reminds me of a bygone era.The airport was also nearby and we could even see the planes from certain points. It would be nice to stay there.Away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

We then drove to my place where we hung around for a few hours until we hungry enough to go for dinner. We had dinner at Ivin's Deli just across from my house. They serve peranakan cuisine. The menu is somewhat lesser than the other 2 main Ivin's restaurants. It kinda looked like a family affair with a number of kid's helping out at the deli.

After that I sent my lovely Bear Bear to her cave cum home.

Sunday

Did not do much in the morning.

In the afternoon met Joyce at the petrol station opposite my house and drove to church. After church, we went to the ATM near Carrefour to withdraw cash and then went to the car. We then drove to the open air car park opposite the old Cockpit Hotel. Had dinner at Le Meridien at the basement foodcourt. Joyce ordered Tom Yam noodles. I had an olive rice set. We followed that up with mango sticky rice and gingko nut with something for dessert.Obviously the second one was ordered by Joyce.
On the way back as we turned towards the road leading to the CTE near the Istana. There a motorcyclist and his pillion very nearly collided with us in the rear. He even had the cheek to horn and show us the by now well-known 'bird' to show us how he felt about the matter. Fortunately I managed to restrain myself from returning the compliment. He obviously enjoys the speed and maneuverability of his scrambler as he cut in and out of traffic after the said act. I fear for his and his pillions safety. Not every driver is as conscientious as I am...

parking woes

I can't help but notice the long line of vehicles along the road leading to places of worship. In religious tolerant Singapore the law turns a blind eye to the faithful who park their vehicles along the road for fear of upsetting the 'fragile' peace and harmony. This phenomenon is especially apparent on Fridays at mosque all around Singapore. You know when you are in close proximity to a mosque not by the sound of the prayers through the speakers but by the long line of cars on the roads leading up to the mosque. This occurence does not confine itself to our Muslim friends. This selfish behavior is also shown at churches and temples around the island.
We read in the news how parishoners of a certain church in the east coast area block the front gates of residents in the area every Sunday. Certain times of the year temples are flooded with the faithful who go and participate in prayers and make their dutiful offerings to their ancestors.

Most of the time the relevant authorities try to keep the peace and not issue summonses, but the reality is that there is no simple solution to this problem. It is not financially feasible for all these places of worship to build multi-storey car parks for their worshippers. And these 'car parks' will be under-utilised the rest of the time when no worship sessions are on.

Adios amigo

David Yeo got voted out this week on Singapore Idol. As usual it was a shocker.Jerry Ong is still in. But just about everyone else worth voting for is out.Pinning my hopes on Maia and Sylvester. Will miss your teeth...I mean...smile.

Sloth for PM??

opposition leader Mark Latham and Sid the Sloth

Can't tell the difference? Neither can I. Glad for us he is not Prime Minister.
