thosai...seletar....library...

joyce went for her facial...so it was a boys night out (well sort of).

Had thosai with Hasli at Prata Point. Chatted a bit.

Went to Lower (upper?) Seletar Reservoir with Hasli for a walk. was kinda nice there.it is one of those parks that looks nice and a little of something for everyone.

After the walk and as the skies began to threaten, we got back to the car and drove to Woodlands library.grabbed a few magazines and lazed around on the sofas till it was time for Hasli to go and meet Fuzzy. bwaaa haaa haaa.... fuzzy... faezah... haha.. geddit? nvm.

love or money

in an ideal world love would overcome all.but the harsh reality is that we have to be responsible little boys and girls.go to study hard, get a good job, work hard to be promoted, find a good wife and live happily ever after....

Fire says: We meet up everyday even if we have no where to go.we eat out. we can save money by eating at home and not meeting up so often. we should only meet if we have something planned and not meet for no reason.why not used the money we save from not meeting so often to go on holiday and have a nice meal once in a while.. blah blah blah...

Ice says: What is most important to me is to be with you and spend time with the One I love. We do not have to eat out all the time. I can go to your place or you can come over for dinner sometimes. we can still go on holiday wat!!.. blah blah blah...

Conclusion: not to meet so often and plan our outtings better.

question: how often should a couple meet up?do you have to spend everytime we go out??

lumps and bumps in the september rain

thursday (23/9/2004)

after work met Joyce at our meeting place and drove to JB for dinner at The Zon.actually joyce was kinda later than expected.cos of that i din accompany hasli to yishun to look for his Civilsations-complete CD-ROM. Joyce was tied up in the office as usual. so we went in a bit later than usual.

On the Causeway we bumped into another car.luckily he was a nice guy and we managed to settle it amicably.

dinner was kinda disappointing compared to the last time we went there with Joyce's mum. The deer meat dish was kinda tasteless, same thing with the deep fried garoupa dish(u should not deep fry garoupa, it loses its taste).Joyce told me the sambal kangkong was disappointing as well.

A tribute....

Yew Kwang

memories: Mr. Poh is actually a rather nice chap.

recollections: *cue music and fade to green grass fields*

that time when he and lyn came but when I got hit by that lorry which totalled the entire right side of my car.was so very nice of poh to stop by and be there for me in my time of need.

there was also that time when he helped me push my car into the parking lot when it refused to start at Sembawang Park. and to stay around till the AA guy came.

these 2 examples are the ones that stick out most in my mind.but i dun think they give the full picture of the man.

Poh comes across as a respectful and fillial person. He is courteous and friendly to one and all. No one has anything bad to say about him.even his staff sing praises of him.

You have been Erased!

I have deleted the nine articles on Israel. I guess they din fit into the blog very well and from the feedback I got no one really bothered to read all of them anyway.Like they say hindsight is 20/20...

5 Ways Women Make Better Leaders

In six studies completed in the past decade, researchers in the United States compared the abilities of executive men and women. The methodologies varied widely, and included performance evaluations, questionnaires, observations and peer evaluations. Research confirmed conventional wisdom, that women did indeed excel at many of the soft skills of management.

Conventional wisdom says that women lead better in these areas:

1. Team-Building
Women are good at encouraging participation and facilitating groups. A 1999 study by Lawrence A. Pfaff and Associates in Michigan found that one of the many ways women rated higher than men was in facilitating teamwork, a skill stereotypically feminine.

2. Empowering
Women are more likely than men to utilize facilitative leadership, a style that enables and encourages others (Porat, 1991). Facilitative leaders empower and motivate people rather than lead by reward and punishment.

3. Communication
Women working in education were found to use a more open communication style that came from their focus on relationships. As a result, they communicated more frequently than men with their colleagues, stakeholders and subordinates (Connor, 1992). In the business world, open communication encourages feedback and sharing of information and power.

4. Consensus-Building
Women are talented collaborators and support contributive, consensual decision-making (Porat, 1991). Team members appreciate knowing their contributions are valued. However, consensus building can have pitfalls for women. An over-reliance on this method of decision-making can make a leader appear indecisive and too dependent upon the opinions of others. A true leader knows when to stop conferring and propose a decision.

5. Almost Everything Else
But women's strengths are not limited to these skills alone. Of the six studies, five indicated that female bosses scored higher than men on a majority of leadership skills measured. In the sixth study, men and women ranked evenly.

In the study by Lawrence A. Pfaff and Associates of more than 1000 managers in 211 organizations, women outranked men in soft skills such as communication and teamwork, but also in areas not traditionally considered female, such as planning, goal-setting and facilitating change. In areas traditionally considered male, such as decisiveness, women ranked on par with men.

In Business Week, Shirley Ross, an industrial psychologist who oversaw a study for Hagberg Consulting Group, was quoted as saying ''Women are scoring higher on almost everything we look at".

Evidence has mounted that if you are a woman, then statistically speaking, your natural, authentic leadership style is working just fine. Yet women try to be more like men, while men are unencumbered by such thoughts, and get ahead simply by being themselves. Can you imagine a male chief executive rising to the top job by pretending to be someone other than who he is? If you are a woman and want to be a better manager, don't try to lead more like a man. Lead like a strong woman, with confidence and backbone.

lanterns in Disneyland

Sunday

After church service, we drove to Buona Vista where we had lunch/dinner at Soul Foods. A number of stalls were closed but Joyce ordered her prawn noodles and I ordered masala dosai. The interesting thing about my order is that there is no fixed price for the items on the menu, so you only pay what you deem fit. Not to mention: all proceeds go to charity.

After dinner/lunch we drove to Jurong Gardens where we were gonna visit the annual lantern festival. The theme this year were Journey to the West and Disney movies. We walked all around the various exhibits and took lotsa pictures. We even *ahem* took some pictures together. (normally one of us takes the picture of the other most times) We have few photos together. Of course most of the pics I have are of Joyce in her resplendescent best.

went home.

what Leon did on Saturday

It seems i am only alive on weekends by the look of my blog, and then go into hibernation from Monday to Friday...

Saturday

Met Joyce after work and went to Toa Payoh to collect my SAFRA Card and to look around at the facillities at the clubhouse.

After that we purposed to go to Mornington Country Club at Seletar Camp.

Instead of that I detoured to Animal Resort at Seletar Farmway where we managed to get up close and personal with the animals there. The treat for me was seeing real life little bunny-wunnie-babies.Although I have worked in the Zoo and have had bunnies as pets before I have never seen bunny babies before. In retrospect they do somewhat resemble rat babies...or hamster babies...or even newborn puppies! I guess we all look alike hairless.
As planned we later made the short drive down to Mornington. I do think that it is really a waste of time to actually pay to be a member there. The facillities are abysymal by the looks of what I seen so far. The only think that is remotely country-club like seems to be the pool which isn't even constructed yet.
After that we went to Punggol Beach. I had been wanting to bring Joyce there ever since me and Hasli went there. We took a short walk around before going back to the car. Joyce needed the loo and there was none there so we drove to the 'nearby' Marina Country Club. MCC is really nice. In contrast to the other MCC (Mornington!!). It just overlooks the bay and it is cool to watch the sun go down. We settled for dinner at the cafe there. The food plus the atmosphere make it worth every penny (or cent for that matter).
