rain drops

How about the weather?
I managed to experience first hand lots of the devastation left in the wake of the recent floods.

But first a video:

It was already been raining from the nite before so I had a longer than usual drive from home to work that morning. But that was only the beginning. But noon things had gotten so bad that many roads in the area were flooded up to waist level! I even saw one cab on its side and covered up to the roof. He had probably parked his cab there overnight.

then another:

I also got to see first hand the flood at the Thomson/Joan Road/Olive Rd area. It was bad. You could even see cars nearly covered in water up to their window level. There was so much stuff being swept away from the shops that it was not even funny. Made even more un-funny by the fact that I know most of the people who work in the nurseries in the area.

Then there is this:

Besides the effects of the floods flooding(duh), there was also other side-effects like the falling trees and branches on the road, assorted falling walls of buildings and entire buildings left without power. I was supposed to go to International Plaza for a routine medical checkup, but was unable to do so as only the cargo lifts were functioning. Being that the designated clinic was on the 36th floor, it was a long, long trudge up. So I had to abandon that bright idea.

xmas time in Whitelionland

Just 2 more days to CHRISTmas. My most favourite time of year (except for all the shopping and crowds). We will be having a christmas dinner that day. Gonna be cool I hope.

Yesterday my dearie and I were at the Marina Bay area shopping. Needless to say she managed to get gifts for her whole family. Me on the other hand managed to only get gifts for my office colleagues and Alden. Still gotta go look for the ones for my parents, lynn, leo and noel. It gets progressively harder to find the right gift for people who have everything. It is not like how it is between me and my beloved Agnes, when we can ask what the other wants and then go to buy it together.

On Wednesday we be going to KL. Hope the weather is good and the traffic is smooth. It should be a fun trip. There is so much to do there in KL. We will be putting up at the Crown Princess Hotel Kuala Lumpur. Seems like a pretty ok hotel based on all the write-ups and reviews.
Our itinerary may comprise of shopping and eating. Not sure how much Agnes wants to go see the sights.

Places we could go:

PETALING STREET (CHINA TOWN)
Known as KL's Chinatown is endowed with a distinct character of its own.

KUALA LUMPUR TOWER
Situated atop Bukit Nanas in the vicinity of KL's hotel district, this 421m high concrete tower is Asia's tallest and the fourth tallest in the world.
Open: 9am - 10pm Daily * Admission: RM8 (adults) RM3(child from 4 to 2 years)

PETRONAS TWIN TOWER (KLCC)
Currently the world's tallest two freestanding towers, the 88-story Petonas Twin Towers soars to a dizzying height of 452m above the city skyline.

Mid Valley Megamall

Bukit Bintang (Also known as Star Hill) is the name of the famous shopping and entertainment district and tourist haven in Kuala Lumpur, and the road that runs through it, Jalan Bukit Bintang. The area is home to many landmark shopping centres, cafés, clubs, shops, malls and specialty shops.

Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre

Berjaya Times Square KL
It is tagged as the ‘world’s largest building ever built in a single phase’, with 7.5 million square feet (700,000 m²) of built up floor area. It is set to become an international landmark offering shopping, luxury accommodation, business, food and abundant entertainment.
Currently, it has space for more than 1000 retail shops (of which many are vacant), 1200 luxury service suites, 65 food outlets to suit many tastes and entertainment attractions such as Asia’s largest indoor theme park, Cosmo's World and Malaysia’s first-ever IMAX 2D & 3D theatre which is located on the 10th Floor. In April 2005, Borders Group opened its first franchise store here. Currently, the store is the largest Borders store in the world. Other popular stores include Metrojaya, which is a multi-level major department store, and many more.

Kuala Lumpur's Central Market
The Kuala Lumpur's Central Market is a main attraction in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This market is also known as Pasar Seni or Pasar Budaya.

Batu Caves is located 13 kilometres north of Kuala Lumpur. It is a sacred place for Hindus in Malaysia and is home to a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Murugan. Batu Caves consists of three main caves and a number of smaller ones. The caves are made of limestone and 400 meters long and 100 meter high. There are 272 steps, which will lead you to the caves. Temple Cave or Cathedral Cave is the best known and biggest of the caves. but it is a long, long walk up. not for the faint hearted.

Genting Highlands is a hill top resort near Kuala Lumpur, famous for its casino, and Theme Parks. This is visible from Kuala Lumpur downtown on a clear day and as well on most nights.

There are also the options of going to Bukit Tinggi and Fraser's Hill. Each with their own special attractions and charm.

The above are only suggestions and are not carved in stone. We are only booked for between 27th to 29th, so we may not be able to squeeze in everything in 2 and 1/2 days. But there is the option to extend our stay up to the New Year if we want, although I figure that we will be back latest saturday.

the days since

Been a while since I last blogged. Not that nothing significant is happening in my life. In fact been rather busy. And so much is happening that it is hard to keep up with all the news sometimes.

Do you guys like the new christmas-sy theme on my blog?

Summary of my life since my last update:

-4 of my fish died. First the big 'unknown dude' fish...then the clown fish and aone of the rainbow fish. that makes three....
(also noticed one of the upside down catfish has a wound on his underside)

- At the office been busy with the upcoming (now going on)Singapore Garden Festival 2006. As such I been out of the office alot the past week. But it was an eye opener to see the differencew between NParks and AVA. In AVA, we are treated as someone's illegitimate child by almost everyone, but the NParks people treated us so well, I am almost afraid of how we can ever repay the favour when the tables are turned the next time round. The work whilst I was stationed over at Peirce Road Depot was rather tiring, as it involved physically unpacking, treating and re-packing detained plants. But it was rewarding to know that our efforts were recognised.

- Got a new Laptop. Its a Compaq Presario V3000. I was so eager to get it that I did not bring along nor inform Agnes until after the fact. Guess she wanted to be part of the selection & buying experience. Sorry dar...

It is a replacement of sorts for my current desktop which has many bugs and in dire need of repairs. In fact each time I re-boot my current PC I lose all the data and files I saved and have to re-configure my settings. Sigh. Hence why I bought the new Lappy.

- Agnes and I bought tickets for Phantom of the Opera for the 7th of April. Cost us $162 a pop. This is one of Agnes's favourite musicals. As for me I have never watched it myself, although I have read and seen snippets of it in the mainstream media. And I do not intend to find out more so I can really enjoy my virginal entry into the phantogasmic realm. *snicker*If anyone is interested we will be seated at Row CC Seat 52 & 53 at Circle 1

- Agnes got me a DVD player thingy for my birthday, But the irony of it all is that we have not watched on it together once. I had figured we will be popping in DVD's and cuddling up in my room every weekend. But alas, it was not to be. Maybe next weekend we will pop by the nearest DVD shop or rental to stock up.

- Also we plan to head up north to KL in the last week of December. December 27th onwards to be precise. How long we will be up there depends on Agnes really. I would not mind to be there until the new year. But in all probability we will be there for 3 days. And I get to drive up. Woopeedoo!! The itinerary looks like KL city and a good chance of maybe Genting and Bukit Tinggi, maybe even Fraser's Hill. There is so much we can do up there and so little time to cram in all in. For me personally, this trip is all about us spending quality time together. But hopefully Agnes will have many fond memories to bring back with her from this trip.

- My lips have not recovered fully from my Israel trip as of today. They still peel and flake. But they are definitely in better condition than it was a week or 2 ago. Thankfully Agnes still finds me as kissable as ever. *blush*

- We had a pretty good dinner yesterday. We went to this live seafood place at Marina South. It is a typical BBQ steamboat setup, but the exception being that the crabs and prawns are live! So it was quite an experience ,for me especially, to get a jumping live prawn into boiling water or to chop up a live crab. Although my culinary skills leave something to be desired, no one got hurt except the afore mentioned crustaceans. They also have a rather wide range of food. 5 counters in all! Seems like a good place to bring Noel and gang. Ort even the family(s).And all for $12 per person.

- Agnes Mummy and Daddy are up in Perak once more. This time for a wedding. We were hoping to join them this time round but they went ahead to book their tickets without us. Maybe we will make the fateful trip up there next time. Meanwhile the two daughters got left behind here in little Singapore. I never realised how traumatic separation from one's parents can be until now. Agnes seems somewhat detached and even depressed to some degree that her beloved mumsie is not around. Go figure.

- Agnes and I are attending wedding dinners today and tomorrow. I do not quite enjoy attending anyone's wedding except my own, but if everyone thought that way we would all be having our weddings to empty ball rooms and restaurants. I guess the main bug bear is how much Hong Bao to give the couple. These things cost alot to hold... and to attend. $$$

- Not done my Xmas shopping yet. More importantly, I have yet to get a gift for my dar. But I am sure we will figure something out as we always do. But like I always tell her, my best gift is HER. (all Noel's fault for being so mushy lovey-dovey on his blog!!)

This where I shall stop for now
