the week and random thoughts

Been down with the flu all this week. Only just now am I returning to somewhat normalcy. Have a blocked nose but other than that am fine.

Went to St.John's Island with the office gang. The pictures are at the Photo Blog. Was a fun time had by all. I especially enjoyed the game of 'Monkey' played using a real coconut. Too bad Agnes couldn't join in the water games. Funny how being stranded on an island brings out the best and worst in people though...

Not been to the gym or working out since..so long. The last 3 weeks my gym buddies and I have been down and out for various reasons. First Poh got struck down with flu. The following week Hasli experienced a twitched in his groin. Bwahahahaaa. Then this week was my turn to get bitten by the flu bug. Hopefully this week we can all make it again. I am so out of shape now. Of course I gotta remember not to overwork myself this time around...

In a related note, me not been a very good owner to Camou. We not been going out at all for our runs/walks. For very much the same reasons I do not blog as often these days. Gonna endeavour to make time for Cam's this week.

All the hoo-haa in the news this week has been about Terri Schiavo and her right to live or die. Her husband thinks she should be allowed to die and has since had her feeding tube removed. It takes about 2 weeks for the inevitable to happen. On the other hand her parents feel that with proper care and nourishment she can make a recovery. They have been trying in vain to get the courts to rule in their favour and have the feeding tube re-inserted.
My take on all of this is that no one has the right to decide if another person is to live or die. As such I do not support euthanasia or abortion for that matter. Of course some among us point to mitigating factors (coma, rising cost of health care, compassion for the person, dignity in death etc) but I just feel that euthanasia is tantamount to MURDER no matter how you try justify it....

The English Premier League is probably the longest and most taxing league in the world. For years now the english FA and clubs have been going on about it with both sides blaming the other. The club sides want a reduction in international matches and friendlies and a winter break like other european leagues. The national side wants a reduction in fixtures during a season and for clubs to release players from their club duties earlier in preparation for international matches and tournaments. I guess until both sides reach a compromise the ones that suffer most are the players. Hence the under-achievement of the club and national sides at european and international levels.

I been thinking about...

things to do in my spare time(if i did have spare time): courses and workshops. Guitar, language courses, cooking, ITE courses, retake my O-levels, go for my degree among others). This will be more so when and if Agnes takes her Masters.I will then find lots of free time on my hands. So...just gotta think of ways to use that time purposefully...

a dog: Agnes and I want to get a dog. But I dunno if it is a good idea at this time. Go look what has become of Camou. An example of what can happen when a couple buys a dog and then loses interests in it after the novelty wears out. Of course Agnes and I are a different kettle of fish from Noel and Paula...

seeing a doctor: for my insomnia and my inability to put on weight for an extended period of time. For a while now I have been experiencing difficulties sleeping well.Maybe it is time to seek professional help. On the other hand I eat like a horse and do not seem to be gaining any mass. Agnes suspects I have stomach parasites. Other put it down to good genes and a high metabolism. Just to be safe I should have it checked out also.

something i found in Faith's blog which i found hilarious..

I Love My Job!
I love my job, I love the pay!
I love it more and more each day!

I love my boss, he is the best!
I love his boss and all the rest
I love my office and its location, I hate to have to go on vacation!

I love my furniture, drab and grey, and piles of paper that grow each day!
I think my job is really swell, there's nothing else I love so well.
I love to work among my peers, I love their leers, and jeers, and sneers!

I love my computer and its software;
I hug it often though it won't care. I love each program and every file.
I'd love them more if they worked a while!

I'm happy to be here. I am. I am.
I'm the happiest slave of the Firm, I am.
I love this work, I love these chores.
I love the meetings with deadly bores!

I love my job - I'll say it again - I even love those friendly men.
Those friendly men who've come today,
In clean white coats to take me away!!!!!

4 bicycles stolen in two separate incidents

you know it has been a slow day at the news room when somthing like this gets headlines:

Police have reported a spate of bicycle thefts on 18 March at two places.
In the first case, a Chinese man in his early 50s had left home for work in the evening after securing his bicycle outside his flat with a chain at Block 221A, Jurong East Street 21.

When he returned home the next day, he found the bicycle missing and the chain broken and left on the floor.

The second incident happened at Block 291, Yishun Street 22.

An Indian family found three of their bicycles missing after a member of the family reported hearing noises outside their flat.

Upon checking, they found the chain used to secure their bicycles broken and the bikes worth more than $1,000 missing. - CNA

a month and a day

Feel like crap today. Not as crappy today as i was feeling yesterday. having a flu and a slight cough. The thought of taking medical leave tomorrow has crossed my mind more than once. Hence I been cooped up in my room eating and drinking whatever the other people who live in my house deem fit to feed me. Had a bad case of runs yesterday of all days. It was Agnes and mine one month together. We have survived each other. A month may not seem a long time but Agnes and I feel like we been together much longer. I guess like I said before 'all the pieces fit'. Never thought I could find someone who could love me and find someone whom I could love completely after the debacle with Joyce. It was enough to make someone take a vow of celibacy and swear of women and their kind. I am so glad I have Agnes as a part of my life. And I pray that we always be this in love with one another.

< am watching music videos of Live as I am writing this, kinda powerful stuff especially Lightning Crashes>

Yesterday was our month together for Agnes and I. First order of business was to pick out a dress. We went down to Bugis Junction. We took quite a while to find a dress we both could agree on. The pictures can be found on the Love Divine blog.

After that we went out to celebrate. Agnes was under the impression that we were gonna go for the Jazz by the Beach thing at Sentosa. Actually that was the initial idea but in the morning of the day in question I sudden found the inspiration to do something extra special. So I looked up those dinner cruise thingys. made a booking to have dinner on the Admiral Cheng Ho ship. It was more for the experience than the food actually. Woulda been kinda cool to ride out on a ship into the open seas as the sun was setting.

The food was not anything special but I am still glad we went and spent the time together.

After we had got back to shore, we drove over to Marina South. I guess Marina South and East Coast Park are 2 of our favourite places. We spent time seated on Sunny's boot talking. After a bit we hopped in Sunny and drove to an another place, as a guy who was fishing parked just next to us.There was also a couple of guys taking pictures. Geez. Admittedly the 2 guys were there before us. We drove around the fields before we found another nice spot top park Agnes and I got into the back seat and soon after fell into blissful slumber.I am not sure how long after it was before we woke up and headed home.
