frowning time

- Found Willow dead this evening when I came back today. Was probably dead since this morning at least since she was in the same position as I saw her this morning when I came back. When I entered the room that was a smell, and I knew what it was. Death has a distinct smell that you will not soon forget. I have had hammies and other pets die on me before. But somehow this demise was somewhat more poignant. I had 4 hamsters at last count. Due to the small number, I had more time for each and got to know them each as individuals, as kooky as that may sound. So I was uncharacteristically sad when I discovered Willow's passing. I know it is normal to be sad when someone or something precious to you dies, but still this time I feels different somehow.

- Yesterday something happened and I am still sorting out my feelings about it. I have always figured myself to be an honest and upfront sort of person. The one button that no one should push is to question my integrity. But someone did yesterday. That someone was disappointed in me for not doing something I said I would do. but I am disappointed in that person by what she said and for putting me in that awkward situation in the first place. Of course I would not feel so sore if that person who said those things to me actually did all the things she said she would and made good on her promises. Or maybe that is too much to ask of any one person.

- Saw on the news about the horrific car bombings in Iraq. Nearly 200 hundred died and just as many seriously hurt. I do not know how people can do such things to another human being, let alone your own countryman. Maybe I can somewhat comprehend going to war and killing a foreign foe in the course of a battle. But to kill your own brothers and sisters? That is literally like shooting your own foot.

- I notice a trend in the popular media lately. Maybe it has always been there but escaped my attention. ut it seems that the media is skewed towards the West. With all the natural disasters and casualties of war in the world it seems like the media slants its coverage heavily in favour of news in the West. Just this week alone there have been numerous reports of earthquakes in the world. Yet the amount of media coverage garnered pales in comparision to the somewhat widespread news coverage to the less important news about Elvis's 30th anniversary, Foot and Mouth Disease in the UK and and Lindsay Lohan's drug bust. Maybe those are bad examples.
Ona asidenote;the korean hostage crisis in Afghanistan. The West has been slow to act. In fact their intention is to literally do nothing, as they 'do not negotiate with terrorists'. Wonder how they would react if it were a group of americans or europeans that were being held hostage.

- Wrestling stuff:
Today's Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that the family of Chris Benoit's wife is questioning whether she or her son died first, as that can determine inheritance issues according to law.

Since Nancy Benoit did not have a will, if she died first, her assets would flow to Daniel, which would mean Daniel's two half-siblings from Chris Benoit's previous marriage would stand to inherit Benoit's fortunes. If Daniel died first, Chris's assets would flow to her, and at the time of her death, her family would have rights to the inheritance.

The article notes that Georgia law stipulates that Chris Benoit is legally considered to have died first in the house. The intent of the "Slayer's Statute" is to make sure neither the killer nor his heirs profit from their crimes.

You wish in a situation like that this that it wasn't an all or nothing situation. It's too bad there weren't wills involved that clearly indicated what Chris and Nancy wanted - and under these circumstances, what Nancy would want weighs more heavily. If only they could take Chris's considerable assets and avoid legal issues and all agree to split them between Nancy's family - who certainly deserve something for what happened - and Chris's previous children - who did nothing wrong and deserve something, too. At least that's what it appears from the outside. These types of family matters can become really ugly, and it's the last thing these families need as they grieve and come to terms with what happened less than two months ago.
