In contemplation.

Last few days I been thinking; thinking whether me and Joyce can overcome our differences;thinking if we make a good couple; thinking if we have any future together...

Joyce wants me to spend my time doing stuff instead of always meeting up with her. Problem is I really enjoy spending time with her and do not see it as a waste of time. I wonder if we spend too much time together now, I wonder how it will be like after we get married. Do we get separate apartments or rooms? Or do we get jobs with different working hours?

what I expect in our relationship:

1)enjoy spending time together
2)share common interest
3)compatible opinions on most matters

#1= I do not think a minute spent with Joyce is considered wasted time. She on the other hand...

#2= common interest? hmm....let me see....errrmmm....bowling? thats one...err....what else...

#3= typical conversation:
Leon: Lets go watch a movie.
Joyce: Today cost $8.50,lets go on weekdays.
Leon:Ok.How about we go to MacRitchie Reservoir to check out the new Treetop walk?
Joyce:Its too hot!/Looks like it is going to rain./I feel too tired/I dowan to be bitten by mosquitoes
Leon:Wanna check out the Motorshow at Suntec?
Joyce: Too expensive! Cost $10 you know? Not worth...
Leon:*groan*
Joyce: Why u give me that expression?
Leon: Nothing.You have any suggestions?
Joyce:Nothing. A guy should lead..
Leon:I just gave 3 suggestions...
Joyce: But not suitable.
Leon:So why don't you tell me what you think is suitable.
Joyce:Why you always want to go out and spend money? It is not that I do not appreciate you wanting to spend time with me, it is just that by spending so much time with me you have no time to do other things. You should also spend your time doing more useful stuff..
Leon: Such as? What do you suggest?
Joyce:You never consider you future is it? Take course or what...
Leon:(to himself)Here we go again.*rolls eyes*
Joyce: You ah..always like that one...*grrr*....

Do Daphne Khoo and Joyce look alike??

Hasli messaged me today during Singapore Idol to say that Daphne looks like Joyce(or is it the other way around?).

what do you think?

...tiger...tiger...burning bright....

A tiger spotted in Sixth Avenue? An incredible story?

Going from house to house, braving excitable dogs and non-responsive owners, the volunteers from the Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (ACRES) want to create awareness among Sixth Avenue residents about the possibility of a tiger being kept in captivity in the area.

The reward for giving information about the tiger? $3,000.

As for the tiger search
, the AVA says it will only come in to take action once there is specific information on the location of such a tiger.
The Agri-food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) said it had also heard from a few sources about someone who has been keeping a tiger for 10 years, but was unable to proceed with investigations without specific information.
ACRES says it believes the tiger may be full-grown and may have been kept there for about 10 years - possibly in the basement of a house.

Oh dear...excitement in Singapore! A real life tiger in Singapore!! Woo-wee...

Er..now for the 'relevant authorities' to do actually do something about it...*cough*

(on a sidenote: ACRES said AVA officers had gone to a specific location in Mandai to search for another illegally-kept exotic pet, a Malayan sun bear, which they hoped to rescue. But the search had come up empty.)

MOTU vs Star Wars

I just caught Masters of The Universe(the movie starring Dolph Lundgren) on tv. I just could not help noticing some similiarities between it and Star Wars.

Gwildor has an uncanny resemblance to Yoda right down to the pointy ears and inter-stellar psycho babble.

The soundtrack was mostly instrumental as well.

The uniform of the Skeletor's foot soldiers kinda look like the Imperial officers in Star Wars.

Skeletor just plain looks like Darth Vader or Emperor Palapatine. Not to mention the opening sequence which just utterly reminds me of the above.Ugh!

Skeletor even dies in the same way as The Emperor. He falls down a shaft.Arrrghh!

Love is a Battlefield

We are young
heartache to heartache we stand

No promises no demands
but love is a battlefield.
We are strong
no-one can tell us we're wrong

Searching our hearts for so long

Both of us knowing
love is a battlefield.
You're begging me to go
then making me stay -
Why do you hurt me so bad?
It would help me to know
do I stand in your way

Or am I the best thing you've had?
Believe me
believe me
I can't tell you why

But I'm trapped by your love
and I'm chained to your side.
We are young
heartache to heartache we stand
. . .
When I'm losing control
will you turn me away or touch me deep inside'
And when all this gets old
will it still feel the same?
There's no way this will die

But if we get much closer
I could lose control

And if your heart surrenders you'll need me to hold.
We are young
heartache to heartache we stand
. ..

in memoriam

Yasser Arafat, who died in France, was the standard-bearer of Palestinian nationalism for nearly half a century who never saw his dream of an independent state become reality.

Arafat was fond of saying that he looked forward to seeing the day "when a child flies the Palestinian flag on the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem".

Although loathed by his enemies and adored by his followers, all can agree he had a vision and fought for the realisation of his dream of a Palestinian nation until the bitter end.

Conspiracy theories abound in the aftermath of his death.

Of course what happens now is anyone's guess...

Lion facts for the day

Favourite soccer team: Newcastle United. Got hooked during the Kevin Keegan days and never looked back since. The days of Alan Shearer, David Ginola, Peter Beardsley, Faustino Asprilla and all...glory days....

Least favourite soccer team: Manchester United. Matter of fact I hate them more than I love my favourite team. Whenever they play I hope they suffer a big loss, key players get red carded and suffer injuries that keep their players out of matches for months. Bad I know, I just can't help it.

updates and upgrades

How do you guys find my blog now? I have added music, a new background and new pictures and re-organised some of the content.

leaving a bad taste...

In the news....

- The Arts centre can have an operating deficit of $31.6 million and you can still consider it good news because the $39.7 million Government subsidy puts you $8.1 million in the black. Whoopee!

- Singapore is set to become Asia's Rivet Hub and have a thriving rivet construction industry, with the number of households required to change the aluminum rivets of their windows to stainless steel ones.
Before you start complaining about why HDB-installed rivets should become your problem, you ingrate, remember that we are all very lucky to have a Government who, out of the goodwill of their hearts, has negotiated with contractors to offer 70 cents per rivet instead of $1.
So now, if you have a 3-room flat with 12 casement windows, you need only pay $134 instead of $192 to replace all the rivets.
What Government in the world will be kind-hearted enough to get you bulk rates for repairs they force you to undertake?
I cannot wait till one of these stainless steel rivet windows falls too, and we will be told to "upgrade" to titanium rivets. At a special HDB-negotiated rate, of course.

- the key to solving our blackout problems is, hold your breath now, another committee.
"9 members appointed to Energy System Review Committee
SINGAPORE : Mr Jock McKenzie, former President for Asia, Middle East and Africa at ChevronTexaco Corporation has been appointed Chairman of a high-level nine-member Energy System Review Committee.
Following the major blackout on June 29, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan informed Parliament that the Trade and Industry would set up the committee to take a fresh look at Singapore's electricity and gas systems, and make recommendations on improvements." -Yahoo News
I say just take the senior blackout culprits out to the back of the shed and break a leg for every power failure lasting less than 30 minutes. And two legs if more than 30 minutes. All this pussyfooting is just a waste of time. Forget the Energy System Review Committee. Have a Power Failure Hit Squad instead.

- That there were mixed reactions from charities when the Council on Governance of Institutions of a Public Character (IPCs) called for greater transparency and accountability from charities, like disclosing the salaries of their top three executives.
Said Action for Aids executive director Benedict Jacob-Thambiah: "It's fine to reveal our pay to the authorities, but why do we need to tell it to any Tom, Dick or Harry?"
Er, just my uneducated guess, but because charities get their money from Toms, Dicks and Harrys?

- That if you plan to slip in the rain, make sure you do it somewhere outside the Singapore Island Country Club premises. You may encounter rich people who don't have time to help you as you lay dying there.
In fact, this member who fell should be ashamed of himself, bringing bad press and ill-repute to the esteemed club.

- no media competition does not mean the quality of the media will suffer.
Ya, in Singapore, we are used to competing with ourselves to continuously improve. Even our Government is like that one.
Singapore: We ownself compete ownself one.

- Competition Laws apply to everyone but the industries we have vested interest in. us = the Government

- That when your computer kena problem or you cannot access the network, and you need I.T.'s help, you need to send them an email

- Armed SOC cops will be patrolling Orchard Road and other public areas to project an even stronger police presence on the ground and to reassure the public and deter any potential terrorist attacks.
"Ok, are you boys ready? When I start speaking into the camera, you all start walking in step towards my camera man, ok? Look fierce and serious about fighting terrorism, ok? SGT Lim, don't smile and don't look at the camera, ok? Your eyes narrower a bit? Right! Annnnnd action!"

- analysts are baffled by the surprise drop in joblessness this third quarter, from the expected 4.5% to the actual 3.4%, a three-year low.
I have good news and bad news: The good news is, more of you will have jobs. The bad news is, you will be paid way less than what you were paid doing the same thing before, and your job will now be a contract thing.

- Singaporeans are following the US Elections with great interest. May as well, since most of us have as much opportunity to vote in the US Elections as we do the Singapore one

- That with US Elections heading for a repeat of 2000's deadlock, the US may wish to give up the Electoral College system and try our Singapore GRC system. Sure got clear winner one (give or take a few walkovers).

Looks like someone at CNN/Netscape does not like Bush very much
