was not planning to blog today. but sometimes you just have to say your piece and not let people step all over you.

someone dissed agnes and mine wedding on Facebook today. among the things this person said:

- told someone not to bother attending my wedding
- that my wedding is 'chinese' (whatever that means)!
- and that if he had a choice he would rather not attend my wedding

Of course the said message has since been deleted so I can't reproduce it in its totality here for my readers to draw their own conclusions. either someone saw a combustible situation and tried to diffuse it, or some wise ass does not have the testicular fortitude to stand by what he said.
but the fact remains that I am disappointed with this person.

regarding the first remark, at least the person the message was sent to had the right priorities, which is to attend the wedding of someone he cares about. even willing to travel overseas just to make it.too bad there was a scheduling issue which made his attendance difficult. it just reeks of disrespect that someone would actually tell someone not to bother to even try to attend our wedding. especially when this certain someone who made the hurtful remarks happens to be someone I am supposed to be close to. I did not tell anyone not to attend your wedding to the best of my knowledge, although no one would hold it against me even if did under the circumstances.

then there is the issue of the chinese-ness of my wedding proceedings. funny thing that this person has not attended any of the meetings we had with our wedding planner, not even been with us to the hotel where the wedding banquet will be held, yet he is already has an intimate knowledge of what will be going on that day that even surpasses our own. The only thing vaguely chinese about my wedding is the race of the bride. anyway what is the issue with it being chinese? it is not as though attending a chinese wedding dilutes whatever race or religion you are of. this same person exhorts the virtues of living in multi-racial singapore in peace and harmony. but that one sweeping statement testifies to the true agenda of this person. he has no concept of tolerance for people who holds beliefs different from his. instead choosing to impose his own misguided notions upon others whilst stubbornly refusing to give ear to people far more enlightened than himself. you at your own peril, piss upon 1/5 of the population of the world. you disrespect an up and coming superpower. you disregard a people who were civilised long before you and your 'people'. an irony that you yourself have so many chinese friends, associates and even family, yet still spout such nonsense, in a public forum no less. maybe it might be helpful if you actually read about china, its history and its people before you open that mouth of yours. or maybe if that proves too taxing upon your brain, you could just talk to someone chinese around you to come to the realisation that the chinese are people like you. maybe even more so.

maybe this link may prove helpful to you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/China

China has one of the world's oldest people and continuous civilizations, consisting of states and cultures dating back more than six millennia. It has the world's longest continuously used written language system, and is the source of such major inventions as what the British scholar and biochemist Joseph Needham called the "four great inventions of Ancient China": paper, the compass, gunpowder, and printing. Historically China's cultural sphere has been very influential in East Asia as a whole, with Chinese religion, customs, and writing system being adopted, to varying degrees, by its neighbors Japan, Korea, and Vietnam.

then we come to the final part of the trifecta, "...and that if I had a choice I would rather not attend it....". well...the invitation cards have not been sent out yet. so if you really find it such an ordeal to be a part of our special day, then I will not impose such a heavy burden upon your feeble shoulders. in fact the bride will probably enjoy her special day a whole lot more without someone there to ruin the joy of the occasion. there is indeed no compulsion on anyone to attend our wedding. it is supposed to be a day of celebration, not a day of regrets. and by the looks of things I may live to regret your presence anyway.

knowing this person as well as I do, he would probably do one of two things after reading this. one way he would approach this would be to offer an effusive apology, and state how he regrets saying what he did in a moment of folly, not realising the implications of his thoughtless statement at the point of time. and then he will promise not to repeat the mistake again. yeah right.

the other route this person has been known to go is to pretend nothing ever happened and hope anyone and everyone forgets the incident ever happened in the first place.

the 'act blur' strategy is even worse! I would rather you said something rather than nothing at all. at least it shows you have some conscience and realise what an ass you are. just goes to show how insensitive and immature you can be. I am still waiting for your bloody explanation for the last time you pissed on our parade.

the problem with the first one is a leopard that does not change its stripes. I have heard this very same person make promises and vows over the years, and then fail in spectacular style in due time. have heard numerous apologies and how sincerely sorry he is and then he goes ahead to screw up again at another inopportune time.

so whatever happens here after will be interesting so watch this spot.

(tried so hard to write this post in such a way so as not to reveal who the culprit is. protecting the guilty and all. but i am sure some of you already know who the person is.)
