Day 2 of Leon's Sabbathical- beaching with my hound

In the afternoon I brought Camou to Punggol beach. Camou was in his box and whining all the way there. He probably does not like to be in the carrier box but I had no choice as he is a handful most of the time. He thinks the best place to be on on my lap, which is not advisable when you are driving.

Once there I got camou all dressed up in his harness and all and I carried him down to the jetty area. There the policeman on duty checked my bag. Probably trying to weed out potential terrorist and illegal immigrants. Hee hee...

As it was high tide we took to scaling one of the metal railings by the side instead of going down by the stairs that lead down to the beach area which was by then already below the tide level.

We made our way to the area around the bend where people go for topless sunbathing and nookie. If I had time I woulda read all the graffitti on the walls. Seems alot of forlorn young ones come to Punggol Beach to ..errmm... express their desires. I even saw a 4 paragraph long tribute to a lost love on one of the rocks!

Once there I lay out a mat and we both splashed in the water a bit. Camou was understandable apprehensive at first. But being gung ho as he is he eventually warmed up to it. It was a nice day for a swim but too bad I left my swimming gear in the car. We just ran around and dipped in the water. The water here is relatively clear most of the time compared to other areas of the coast. And the sand is whiter and finer than most.

After having our share of fun we left and took a walk down the beach towards the other side where it is more rocky. I was almost tempted to leave Camou on one of the rocks in the water and let the tide rise! Thankfully I thought better of it. Me thinks Hasli might wanna try fishing there one of these days.In the distance I saw some vehicles parked but it was kinda far to walk...

...so I drove.I got back to the car and placed little Cams back into his carry case. I eventually made it to the off-road path that lead to the area I saw earlier. It is just before the Punggol Marina Country Club. The place is famous for being the place where many local wedding pictures are taken because of the rocky beach and the long grass. Another place Hasli might consider for a future fishing trip. By the crowd there it the fish must really be biting in that spot. Even more people than at the jetty.

A bit of history now of Punggol Beach:

Although it hardly seems like it, this quiet stretch of beach at the end of Punggol Road, near Punggol jetty was a Japanese killing field during the Second World War.
The remains of about 300 to 400 Chinese civilians who were gunned down there on Feb 28, 1942 by the bojo kempei (Japanese auxiliary military police) firing squads were found.During World War II, on Feb 28, 1942, about 1,000 Chinese from the area around Upper Serangoon Road were rounded up by the Japanese as part of the Sook Ching or mopping-up operation. They were detained. Then, they were executed, presumably because of tattoos spotted on their bodies - a sign believed then to be linked to the triad societies.
PUNGGOL beach is now on the National Heritage Board's list of historical sites.
The marking of the Punggol beach massacre site was part of a series organised in 1995 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the end of World War II.

After that I drove around Punggol and Sengkang before parking illegally outside of Compass Point to withdraw cash from the DBS atm.

Cellular review (no spoilers...sort of..)

Watched it yesterday.Alone...I might add.

The plot may be a bit far fetched but it was one great roller-coaster ride nonetheless. Chris Evans, Kim Basinger(Jessica) and William H. Macy put up great performances.Jason Statham was suitable intense as the villian of the piece (a little Shakespearean there).

Chris Evans as Ryan, a good for nothing surfer dude, is likeable and believable as the hero who races against time to save Kim Basinger who makes for another damsel-in-distress role, as she is kidnapped and imprisoned in an attic.

The film is an adrenaline rush as Ryan overcomes all manner of obstacles to get to Kim's character. It is also filled with comic moments.

The only shortcomings are the wooden acting of Richard Burgi and Adam Taylor Gordon as the husband and son of Jessica. They have no character depth and serve mainly as plot devices rather than characters central to the plot.

By the way...the surname of Jessica is Martin...which makes for one of the lighter moments in the story. How Kim Basinger kept a straight face while Chris had all the best lines is beyond me!

The World Wildlife Fund files lawsuit against WWE?

The following are statements concerning the lawsuit by WWF against the WWE. In my mind it is all crap. Why in the world would WWF want to litigate?Shouldn't their time and money be better spent on conservation?

The World Wildlife Fund filed a lawsuit against WWE early Friday. The following was released to US Newswire:

To: Assignment Desk and Daybook Editor

Contact: Phil Kavits, 202-778-9540, 301-580-5485/202-294-8006 (cell), 703-435-0975 (home), Michael Ross, 202-778-9565, 202-841-1749 (cell), both of the World Wildlife Fund

News Advisory:

WHAT: WWF, the global conservation organization, serves papers seeking a damage judgment that will bring a fair and final conclusion to years of litigation with World Wrestling Entertainment.

WHEN: Documents were served Friday, Oct. 29, 2004.

WHERE: The case will be determined by the British High Courts.

WHY: The case stems from the widespread use and promotion of the initials WWF in connection with wrestling events and products in a repeated breach of a longstanding agreement with the conservation organization, which had used the moniker since its inception in 1961. In 2002, a British Court ordered the wrestlers to stop violating the agreement. The wrestlers subsequently renamed themselves WWE. Public confusion resulting from the misuse of the name persists, especially in the United States, where the organization is forced to couple the global WWF name with World Wildlife Fund, to clarify its meaning.

In this phase of the case, the court will assess damages against the wrestlers for repeatedly violating a legally binding agreement over the use of our initials and causing the resulting difficulties and damages to WWF. Guided by British law and previous cases, the claim to assist the court in determining fair damages by estimating the revenue WWF might have received had the wrestlers legally licensed the initials from WWF instead of simply taking them. The ultimate dispensation of the case may still be years away.

WHO: Edwin Coe LLC represents WWF.

Media Contacts: Phil Kavits, 202-778-9509 (office); 301-580- 5485/202-294-8006 (mobile); 703-435-0975 (home) – Michael Ross, 202-778-9565 (office); 202-841-1749 (mobile).

NOTES: WWF officials express hope that, with the “name issue” decided and the question of damages now in the hands of the court, the inflammatory rhetoric that characterized earlier parts of the case can be avoided. “The time has come to put the battle behind us and let both organizations return their full focus to what they do best,” says Philip B. Kavits, WWF’s vice president of Communications. “We want the world to know that WWF stands for one thing and one thing only, action to save our living planet. When the costs, distractions and confusion of the case come to an end, we’ll be free to again devote our full attention and resources to producing the conservation progress that WWF is known for.”

——

Known in the United States as World Wildlife Fund and recognized worldwide by its panda logo, WWF leads international efforts to protect endangered species and their habitats and to conserve the diversity of life on Earth. Now in its fifth decade, WWF, the global conservation organization, works in more than 100 countries around the world.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

Since I was little I have been a big Star Wars fan. I fell in love with it from the first one(which as it turns out is actually the fourth one...nevermind..) and never looked back ever since.

At Christmas time around my house and birthdays it was never difficult to figure out what to get for me and Noel. Star Wars toys!! We had every character I do think. Add to that the vehicles and other such stuff. Our room was virtually a war zone as we re-enacted the various epic battles from the movies...and then some.

Till today I still have a collection of Star Wars toys and it is growing. Just yesterday I was at Toys R Us and I saw the new Millenium Falcon. It had lights and sounds and all! It cost $200. If it were less I woulda bought it in a heartbeat.

I am so looking forward to the 3rd prequel 'Revenge of the Sith'. It releases on Thursday, May 19, 2005.

Cole handed pizza United action

I am not sure if the incident happened but somehow it has become a joke in the newspapers:

Britain's biggest-selling newspaper said that Arsenal full-back Ashley Cole was responsible for throwing a piece of pizza that it claimed hit Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson.

The incident, one of the most bizarre of this or any other English football season, took place after United ended Premiership champions Arsenal's top-flight record of 49 unbeaten games with a 2-0 win at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Various reports have suggested that soup, a sandwich or pizza, if not a combination of all three, had been thrown by an unidentified Arsenal player following an ill-tempered clash.

However, the Sun - which has a daily circulation of over three million - led its Wednesday front page with the banner headline 'Old Fling Cole'.

It said the 23-year-old England defender was aiming for United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who earlier in the match appeared to stamp on Cole, but missed and hit Ferguson instead.

The United manager was forced to change out of his suit for a television interview.

On Tuesday Dutch international Van Nistelrooy, 28, who scored United's opener from the penalty spot, accepted a Football Association (FA) charge of serious foul play.

He also said he would serve the standard three-game ban punishment to those found guilty of such charges even though the panel hearing his case does not meet until Thursday.

According to a witness quoted by the Sun: "Ashley loves pizza. He'd normally eat it not throw it... The Arsenal players thought it (the pizza hitting Ferguson) was hilarious. They were splitting their sides in the dressing room."

Arsenal's French manager Arsene Wenger branded van Nistelrooy a "cheat" and was also severely critical of referee Mike Riley. The FA are currently looking into both Wenger's comments and the tunnel incident.

Meanwhile the Sun's inside pages carried a photograph of some of its reporters holding pizza boxes branded with the paper's logo being ignored by Arsenal players leaving the London's club training ground on Tuesday.

And the Sun also joined forces with one of Britain's largest chain of pizza restuarants to offer its readers tokens for purchasing the newly created 'Flaming Fergie' and 'Wenger Wobbler' pizzas.

The creation named in honour of the United boss was described as a "fiery feast that will knock your head off," a reference to Ferguson's notoriously short temper.

Anyone eating a pizza bearing Wenger's name was assured of an "explosive Mediterranean experience".

Meanwhile, a Pizza Hut spokesman said: "Unfortunately, we are not able to supply any sour grapes."

Mondays!

Today was a busy day at the office for me. Normally Mondays suck. You know...the hangover from the weekend. Just becomes hard to get into gear on Monday mornings. Anyway, I got to work earlier as I had some work to do relating to Saturdays cashiering. But it seemed that the work just kept on coming. I had lotsa CITES permits to issue, lotsa calls and enquiries to answer,TradeNet went wonkers, DMM report to compile,CCP's to print, help Khim to calculate some stats, update TAPS and lotsa other small things that somehow came to alot.

Had lunch with Lyn and Poh. We went to Northpoint foodcourt. Me and Poh had briyani. Lyn had some jap.

After work I went to Yishun central. I first went to AquaStar to get some cleaning equipment for my tank which seems to be getting more algae lately. After that I drove to the multi storey carpark and walked to Northpoint. Was looking to get:
1)a haircut
2)a nail file
3)a new belt and buckle
4)some new clothes hopefully
5)a new blind spot mirror for sunny

Of the above list I got ZILCH...ZERO...
Somehow I could not get anything that fit what I had in mind.

Another day...another time then...
Instead I got some medicated plasters!
*and the readers go wild!!!*
