Lion-hearted

Webster's 1913 Dictionary

Definition: \Li"on>heart`ed\ (-h[aum]rt`[e^]d), a.
Very brave; brave and magnanimous. --Sir W. Scott.

From The Wizard of Oz, by L. Frank Baum

“What makes you a coward?” asked Dorothy, looking at the great beast in wonder, for he was as big as a small horse.

“It's a mystery,” replied the Lion. “I suppose I was born that way. All the other animals in the forest naturally expect me to be brave, for the Lion is everywhere thought to be the King of Beasts. I learned that if I roared very loudly every living thing was frightened and got out of my way. Whenever I've met a man I've been awfully scared; but I just roared at him, and he has always run away as fast as he could go. If the elephants and tigers and the bears had ever tried to fight me, I should have run myself--I'm such a coward; but just as soon as they hear me roar they all try to get away from me, and of course I let them go.”

“But that isn't right. The King of Beasts shouldn't be a coward,” said the Scarecrow.

“I know it,” returned the Lion, wiping a tear from his eye with the tip of his tail. “It is my great sorrow, and makes my life very unhappy. But whenever there is danger my heart begins to beat fast.”

“Perhaps you have heart disease,” said the Tin Woodman.

“It may be,” said the Lion.

“If you have,” continued the Tin Woodman, “you ought to be glad, for it proves you have a heart. For my part, I have no heart, so I cannot have heart disease.”

“Perhaps,” said the Lion thoughtfully, “if I had no heart I should not be a coward.”

“Have you brains?” asked the Scarecrow.

“I suppose so. I've never looked to see,” replied the Lion.

It is time....

Today I finally completed all the procedures for the handover of Sunny. Now I am the proud owner of a Nissan Sunny. It was kinda like Joyce and my kid in a way. We looked after it, nurtured it and cared for it when it was 'unwell'. Now that mummy and daddy have separated ,daddy has gotten legal custody of baby. :P

I met Joyce yesterday to settle the paperwork, transact foodstuffs, collect personal effects and catch up...*aaahhhh* I must say that I am glad that we can still be friends and that things are not awkward between us. :)

The day before joyce had also called me up at around dinner time. I think she feels kinda down and empty cos the first thing she asked me was "...how come it is so easy for men to get over a relationship?..." I think that maybe she feels that I have moved on with my life and that I am happy with my newly rediscovered freedom, but nothing could be further from the truth. I am hurting just as much as her, maybe even more so.....

Today is Paula's b-dae and Noel, she and I went out shopping for stuff for the bbq tonite. Actually I had planned to go with Lyn for an exhibition but somehow it did not materialise. Anyway I will make it up to her tomorrow. Jus wondering about the 'miscommunicatn' between her and poh.But she did express that she did not want me to probe.....

Noel and Paula want me to bring them puppy hunting tomorrow but I have plans with Lyn. But I did cancel my plans with Lyn today to help them out. It is only fair that I fulfill my promise to Lyn....

Oops...

I just went over to Nad's blog and saw that she has a weekly top ten list. Hmm....never noticed it until now.Maybe I did but it did not register in my razor-sharp mind.Anyway if anyone has noticed I have been posting a couple of top ten lists myself. To avoid a potentially costly lawsuit for copyright infringement I will henceforth have a Top Twelve (or more) List!

I been trying to no vail to log in to one of my favourite sites,Talkingcock.com, for the last couple of days but it seems that it either does not exist or something. *sniff*

Poison seems to be balding.I noticed a bald patch near his tail. Wonder if it is like Nico's ....

What about the latest charges brought against Michael Jackson? He may be weird..strange....bonkers even.....but I do believe he has a heart of gold. I do not believe he molested the boy but it just shows how much I know....

Spanish opera sensation Jose Carreras has left Singapore fans in the dark and disappointed after abruptly cancelling a concert without an explanation. I think it is not about the money but I think lots of people were really looking forward to his performance and the organizers silence as to the reasons for the cancellation are baffling.

Arsenal trounced Inter 5-1? It is about bloody time too!! I am not an Arsenal fan but anytime the Italiano's get their asses handed to them is fine by me :P

England's World Cup hero Jonny Wilkinson says success will not change him despite a warning from England soccer captain David Beckham to expect a "crazy" life from now on. But he and his wife seem to be level-headed unlike the Becks.

It has been around for a week, and Singapore's first reverse bungee jump is drawing in the crowds. Spectators especially! What we need are participants not viewers...

Would you tell a long-term lover if you had a sexually-transmitted infection? It seems that only three in 10 Singaporeans will tell a long-term lover if they have a sexually-transmitted infection. Some 43 percent say they will still have sex with a new partner even if they refuse to wear a condom. Singaporeans should get their heads out of their a**es and start being more responsible...

Villagers in the firing line of Kashmir's border war celebrated an unprecedented ceasefire by burning their lights all night, visiting Hindu temples and playing cricket.
If it were Singapore we would probably eat, go shopping and buy 4-D.....

SPH MEDIAWORKS has been fined $10,000 by the Media Development Authority (MDA) for airing a programme that 'promoted and justified' illegal gambling on Channel U.

A new device may be in the pipeline that could let you not only buy a ride on the MRT, but also a cup of coffee and other small purchases. The system is not even a card, but an ingenious computer chip about the size of a 20-cent coin that can be stuck to the back of a mobile phone, handbag or wallet.

What are the signs of depression?

Some of the symptoms of depression are:

1. Loss of appetite. Weight gain or loss.
2. Depressed affect. Children & Adolescents: cranky, irritable, angry/explosive outbursts.
3. Diminished interest in or enjoyment of activities.
4. Psychomotor agitation or retardation.
5. Sleeplessness or hypersomnia.
6. Lack of energy.
7. Poor concentration and indecisiveness.
8. Social withdrawal.
9. Suicidal thoughts and/or gestures.
10. Feelings of hopelessness, worthlessness, excessive or inappropriate guilt.
11. Low self-esteem.
12. Unresolved grief issues.
13. Hallucinations or delusions.

2. What are the causes of depression?
Depression is usually the result of one or more of the following: self-worth, stress, spiritual, anger, guilt and physical problems; false beliefs, loss or grief reactions.

3. What are some steps I can take when I feel depressed?
First take a look at your relationship with Christ. Many times Christians are not spending time meditating on the Word of God and praying. God and faith are the antidotes to depression. Our God is the God of all comfort and hope. When you are depressed it is probably because you feel hopeless and helpless about your life. Jesus Christ is the answer and He can reveal truth about your situation through prayer, the Bible and His church. Usually people who are feeling depressed are not doing what would help them feel better. Regular exercise and proper diet is very helpful. Spending time with family and friends is encouraging. Serving others is fulfilling. When you are trying to do these things and still don't feel better, it might be wise to seek out pastoral or professional Christian counseling.

When we are depressed we have the tendency to want to withdraw from something that is bothering us. We may be overcome with a feeling of aloneness or worthlessness. We might take the attitude of just not caring about anything anymore. Whatever it is, we do not want to face the reality of what has entered into our life, so we avoid facing the issue by suppressing or denying it.

The following are some symptoms that one may experience when depression sets in:

1. Allowing our emotions to control us.

2. Disappointment with self, with others, with God.

3. Failure to achieve personal goals or accomplish certain tasks.

4. Fear of being hurt by others.

5. Fear of losing control of life's affairs.

6. Fear of the unknown, the uncertainties of life.

7. Feeling independent of God and others.

8. Feelings of rejection.

9. Feelings of unworthiness.

10. Loneliness.

11. Pursuit of satisfaction and happiness in people or the things of this world.

12. Placing our expectations on others and being disappointed when they are not met.

13. Personal pride or self-degradation.

14. Stress and the lack of proper rest.

15. Unachieved ambitions.

16. Unresolved guilt and a condemning conscience.

17. Worry about what might happen.

18. Worry over not having the things we need or think we need.

Are you depressed?

Avoid being alone. Force yourself to be with people.

Seek help from others. (ChristianAnswers.Net can put you in contact with a Christian by e-mail. Free, private assistance is available - Go...)

Sing. Music can uplift your spirit as it did for King Saul (1 Samuel 16:14-23).

Praise and give thanks. "In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

Lean heavily on the power of God's Word.

Rest confidently in the presence of God's Spirit. "Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him For the help of His countenance" (Psalm 42:5).

In those long dreary days
In depression and sorrow.
I still have a joy--
My Hope for tomorrow.
When I am downcast
and I feel I might fall,
There's a peace in my soul
For He's my All in All!
When my foes o'er take me
And it feels all hope is gone,
My God is there fighting,
Giving grace to keep going on!
When my heart feels so heavy
And troubles worry me so,
My Jesus is with me,
To carry all my load!
I am so thankful to have a friend so dear,
For He is my Hope and Stay,
And since He is with me,
Whom shall I fear?

AAAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!

I have just been issued with a $5122.65 claim for damages to someone's rental car!! Bloody leeches!! I am gonna have to see the pictures of the damage and invoices for repairs done. But if you ask me, 5 K is way too much for a cracked front bumper. All that is required was a patch-up. The lady even drove the car around on errands and they are claiming $100 per day for loss of use.But I did agree in writing to pay all damages due to my negligence.*sigh* What a fool I am.....

And how am I gonna explain it to my bosses since I was driving a company car during office hours at the time of the 'accident'....*groan*
